“My knee is swollen and red… something must be wrong.”❌

Not always.

After knee surgery, swelling and some redness are actually expected — it’s part of the normal healing response.

Your body is increasing blood flow to repair tissue.

What matters is how it behaves over time:
✔ gradually improving
✔ settling with rest and elevation
✔ responding to movement

But if swelling is worsening, very painful, or comes with fever — that’s when it needs to be checked.

Recovery isn’t always pretty… but that doesn’t mean it’s going wrong.

What symptoms would worry you most after surgery?

Not all heroes wear capes… some carry clipboards and hunt for missing walking frames. 👀

Myth: Rest is best after surgery
Reality: Movement is medicine

After a knee replacement, early mobilisation isn’t about pushing too hard — it’s about starting the recovery process safely and progressively.

The sooner patients begin moving (when medically stable), the better the outcomes tend to be.

Less stiffness.
Better function.
Faster return to daily life.

Would you feel nervous to move early after surgery?

Even physios need a physio sometimes 😅

All that lifting, demonstrating exercises, and pretending our backs don’t hurt… eventually catches up with us.

“I’ll be back to normal in 6 weeks.”

We hear this one a lot.

At 6 weeks many people are walking more comfortably and getting back to daily activities — but recovery after a knee replacement continues well beyond that.

Strength, mobility and function keep improving for months with the right rehabilitation.

Recovery takes time — and movement is part of the process.

Exercise isn’t the problem.
Doing nothing… then EVERYTHING… is. 😅

Your knees crave consistency, not chaos.

There’s a better way to build strength — and it doesn’t involve giving up.
