LETS TALK METS: “Mets have multiplied”

The first life changing words I heard were “You have cancer”. Then it was “Cells have spread” from the breast to liver. Now after keeping it contained in the liver for 5 years, I hear “Mets have multiplied” … and have gone travelling.

Every stage of cancer is like a new chapter. Time to review your treatment plan, support structure, holistic approach and how you’re going to take on the challenges ahead.

Be positive? Blahhh to that!! You have to delve into the doldrums of despair, feel the fear, a little denial if necessary, and come out the other side with new insights and direction.

Yup, it’s a journey, so find the small gifts and moments of beauty to keep you going! It’s with it!

Here’s my second feature in Yes To Life’s integrative approach to cancer magazine called

A real privilege to have my article published and illustrated along with other inspirational survivor artists who find healing in creating.

My beloved belated cancer guru Sophie Sabbage spoke of “creativity in crisis”, and I’m starting to explore what that means. Watch this space …

METSTER MOTIVATION

It never goes away … the anxiety around scan time. I’m nearly 6 years down this road and the apprehension, fear, anticipation, an almost venous rush that comes with it all, and then the words coming clear from my darling departed guru Sophie Sabbage “You don’t know until you know” and allow the fear, the only way out is through …

But feeling the way I’ve been feeling, I’m anticipating a ‘cooperative liverhood’. There are days you can’t get out of bed or face the world, and then there are days you can.

My motivation for you is to take those good days and run! Go to that show, get up and dance that song, even if it tires you out, spoil yourself to a wellness spa (consult with your Onc’ first!), you’re still alive so live!*

A fellow Metster, an icon, an inspiration and pioneer in cancer research, Olivia has left a legacy. I have posted before on her Research Institute, she epitomised much of what we aspire to here

… And Not uncanny that she passed on Women’s Day in South Africa. Rest in peace, Olivia!

Dame Olivia Newton-John (73) passed away peacefully at her Ranch in Southern California this morning, surrounded by family and friends. We ask that everyone please respect the family’s privacy during this very difficult time.

Olivia has been a symbol of triumphs and hope for over 30 years sharing her journey with breast cancer. Her healing inspiration and pioneering experience with plant medicine continues with the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund, dedicated to researching plant medicine and cancer. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any donations be made in her memory to the Olivia Newton-John Foundation Fund (ONJFoundationFund.org).

Olivia is survived by her husband John Easterling; daughter Chloe Lattanzi; sister Sarah Newton-John; brother Toby Newton-John; nieces and nephews Tottie, Fiona and Brett Goldsmith; Emerson, Charlie, Zac, Jeremy, Randall, and Pierz Newton-John; Jude Newton-Stock, Layla Lee; Kira and Tasha Edelstein; and Brin and Valerie Hall.

LETS TALK METS: “LIFE, REDEFINED”

Face it, being in treatment for the long haul. Personally, I’m looking back wishing I’d valued my energy and quality of life more, and wondering if I’ll ever get back to living without fatigue and side effects.

So looking for some encouragement, I found this, and it spoke to me. Here’s to Living … Well!
