My Beautiful Broken Brain follows London resident Lotje Sodderland’s recovery over the year following a severe stroke and emergency brain surgery. It documents her daily struggles with communication (due to dysphasia and apraxia), memory loss, confusion, cognitive and sensory difficulties, and emotional challenges like fatigue and frustration. Despite a setback from experimental TMS treatment, Lotje makes significant progress through rehabilitation and strong support from family and friends. The documentary is deeply personal, featuring footage Lotje recorded herself, including visual representations of her altered perceptions, giving viewers insight into her experience.

Only one week to go until the most amazing race in the world!!!
Hundreds of thousands of people running simultaneously all over the world to help raise awareness and funds for spinal cord injury and the research and developments into curing it.
It is no longer a question of 'if' but 'when' and more support will help this to happen quicker.

On November 15th, 2014, Trevor Kennison broke his back snowboarding in the Colorado backcountry on Vail Pass. A plumber by trade and a snowboarder only by hobby, Trevor’s entire life was changed forever. Wheelchair bound, his future was filled with uncertainty and devoid of goals or direction.

On a whim, Trevor tried sit-skiing for the first time (an adaptive device enabling wheelchair users to ski). His life changed forever once again: setting goals around sit-skiing progression gave him a newfound purpose.

In 2019, Trevor showed up as an unknown amateur in Jackson Hole Wyoming, and became the first sit-skier to launch into Corbet’s Couloir at the Kings and Queens of Corbet’s competition. His death-defying 60 foot leap of faith went viral and launched his career as a professional athlete. More importantly, it earned him a spiritual mentor.

We are very excited to be able to work with Wits Physiotherapy Department again this year in providing practical placements for their fourth year students. In the blink of an eye the first block is already over! It was such a great block and we are looking forward to the rest of the year! 😃

'Against All Odds' tells the story of Alwyn Uys a student and budding rugby star for Stellenbosch University, who was left paralysed from the waist down after breaking his back in a car accident in 2014. In 2019 he became the first South African paraplegic athlete to complete a half-Ironman in under 7 hours and he became the first paraplegic to ever swim from Robben Island to Eden on the Bay exactly 6 years after his accident.
