Balanced Nutrition is the Foundation of Crop Performance

Plants need the right balance of 16 essential elements to grow and perform at their best.

These include:
▪️ Macro elements (N, P, K)
▪️ Secondary elements (Ca, Mg, S)
▪️ Micro elements (Fe, Mn, Cu, Zn, B, Mo)

Even a small imbalance can limit yield, reduce efficiency, and impact crop health.

Getting the balance right means better growth, stronger crops, and improved yields.

We’re proud to support the next generation of athletes!

Kynoch sponsored the rugby jerseys for Caledon High School in the Western Cape. During the handover, even one of our own agents couldn’t resist sporting the new look! We look forward to seeing the team in action on the field.

Food for thought:

A handful of micronutrient granules scattered in a field only reaches a few plants.

When micronutrients are coated onto every fertilizer granule, roots get the nutrients they need exactly where they grow.

That’s the idea behind Kynoch’s Ultra™ micronutrient coating — helping crops take up nutrients more efficiently and grow stronger from the start.

Enhancing Winter Grain Profitability Starts with Balanced Nutrition

Winter grain producers face increasing pressure from rising input costs and unpredictable rainfall. Getting nutrition right from the start is more important than ever.

Ultra™ micronutrient coating from Kynoch delivers essential micronutrients directly with granular fertilizer, ensuring even distribution and early nutrient availability during critical crop development stages.

By integrating micronutrients at planting through OptiStart, producers can support stronger crop establishment and improve nutrient efficiency.

DAY 3 | Kynoch Annual Green Tour 2026 – Knowledge Sharing & Expert Insights

The final day of Green Tour 2026 focused on technical insights and practical knowledge from industry experts and our own specialists.

Our speakers included:

▪️ Prof Ailsa Hardie-Pieters (Stellenbosch University) – Biochar and its role in improving soil structure, microbial activity, and long-term carbon stability.

▪️ Dr Brian de Villiers (Consultant) – The importance of adjuvants in enhancing the effectiveness of crop protection through improved spreading and uptake.

▪️ Graham Peddie (Kynoch) – Soil acidity management, with a focus on lime and gypsum for balanced nutrition and healthy root development.

▪️ Lunay Saayman de K**k (Kynoch) – How humates contribute to better nutrient efficiency and improved soil health.

▪️ Etienne Bruwer (Kynoch) – Turning data into practical on-farm decisions that add real value.

A big thank you to all our speakers for sharing their expertise and helping make Day 3 both insightful and impactful.

DAY 2 | Kynoch Annual Green Tour 2026 – Witdraai Farm, Villiersdorp

Our next stop took us to Witdraai Farm in the Overberg – a mixed farming enterprise near the Threewaterskloof Dam, run by father and son.

What stood out:
▪️ A strong focus on conservation agriculture – no-till planting and stubble retention
▪️ Impressive organic matter levels (1.8–2.4%) in generally acidic soils
▪️ Crop rotation between wheat, canola, oats and barley
▪️ Livestock integration, including a growing Braford stud, supporting long-term sustainability

With highly variable rainfall (from 180mm to over 800mm in recent seasons), adaptive management is key. Despite late-season drought, the farm achieved average yields of 2.4 t/ha wheat and 1.8 t/ha canola.

A great example of balancing productivity, conservation, and resilience in the Overberg.

DAY 2 | Kynoch Annual Green Tour 2026 – Bonnievale Region

On Day 2, we explored Bonnievale in the Breede River Valley – a hub of vineyards, dairy farms, orchards, and vegetable production.

Highlights:
▪️ Wine grapes averaging ~22 t/ha alongside diverse crops and dairy operations
▪️ Year-round water supply from the Breede River
▪️ Soils range from sandy topsoils to clay subsoils, with gypsum applied where needed
▪️ Precision nutrient management ensures healthy crops and long-term soil health

It was inspiring to see diverse farming systems thriving together while prioritising sustainability and productivity.

DAY 1 | Kynoch Annual Green Tour 2026 – SKF Boerdery, Riebeek West

We wrapped up Day 1 of the Green Tour at SKF Boerdery, exploring how precision agronomy and smart irrigation drive healthy maize crops.

Highlights:
▪️ Diverse Swartland soils – from shallow shale soils to clay-rich Oakleaf areas
▪️ Potassium management guided by leaf and soil analysis to boost crop performance
▪️ Irrigation insights – using humates to counter high sodium levels in summer water

It was inspiring to see how data-driven decisions and careful nutrient management support both productivity and soil health.

DAY 1 | Kynoch Annual Green Tour 2026 – Lumbri Compost & ZZ2 Natuurboerdery®

We continued our Green Tour in the scenic Koue Bokkeveld with a visit to Lumbri Compost and ZZ2’s Natuurboerdery® farm.

Over 20 years ago, ZZ2 set out to farm smarter — integrating ecological processes with modern science to keep soils healthy, crops productive, and farms resilient.

Highlights:
▪️ Compost acts as a biological booster, not just a nutrient source
▪️ Annual post-harvest applications help strengthen soil vitality
▪️ Precision nutrient management ensures crops get exactly what they need

DAY 1 | Kynoch Green Tour 2026 🌱

We kicked off our annual Green Tour at @ in the scenic Koue Bokkeveld — a nursery supplying apple and pear trees across South Africa.

From tissue-cultured rootstocks by to green-grafting and bag-grown trees, Cape Sweet focuses on producing strong, uniform trees that establish quickly and deliver early yields.

Producing 230,000 trees a year — all made to order — this nursery shows how planning, precision, and quality at every stage set the foundation for successful orchards.

Strong orchards start with strong trees
