Makatu Tshivhula, founder of The Light Candles
Bio:
Makatu Tshivhula is a 27-year-old entrepreneur from Soweto, who founded The Light Candles, a successful candle-making business. He's a psychology graduate from Nelson Mandela University, but instead of pursuing a traditional career path, he chose to turn his passion for candle-making into a business.
Makatu's journey began when he worked at a candle factory for six months, learning the craft. He then took a bold step and started his own business using manual molds and eventually secured funding to scale up production. His candles are popular among the spiritual and religious community, and he's known for using high-quality wax that’s eco friendly.
Makatu's mission goes beyond just running a business; he's passionate about tackling unemployment in South Africa. He aims to equip young people with skills to start their own businesses and plans to expand his operations to every province, creating job opportunities along the way.
