From the heartfelt service at Walter Sisulu Hall, where family, comrades, political leaders, media, and business figures gathered, to his final rest at Heroes’ Acre in Westpark Cemetery, the atmosphere reflected respect, unity, and reflection.

Mr. Hlongwa’s journey from youth activism to leadership in health and governance was celebrated with solemnity and gratitude. ANC Deputy President Paul Mashatile delivered a powerful eulogy, honouring his humility, discipline, and contributions to political education and service.

Today we honour the life and service of Brian Thami Hlongwa, a South African leader whose journey began in student activism and grew into decades of public service. From his early work in youth and civic movements to roles in local government, the Gauteng Provincial Legislature, and as Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Health, Brian dedicated much of his life to serving his community and country.

Known by many as a committed activist and political educator, he played a significant role in shaping leadership and policy, especially in health and community development, and was remembered by many as a loving father and devoted public servant.

To his family, friends, comrades, and all who knew him — may you find strength and comfort in the memories you shared. 💛
