๐ŸŒง๏ธ๐Ÿ’› THANK YOU, COMMUNITY ๐Ÿ’›๐ŸŒง๏ธ

Last night was a powerful reminder of what it means to belong to a truly caring community. On one of the coldest, wettest nights of the year, friends, neighbours, and even strangers came together in an incredible show of support to search for a local man who had gone missing.

After an exhaustive search, weโ€™re so relieved to share that he was found and is currently in hospital recovering and getting stronger every day. ๐Ÿ™

We want to give a heartfelt thank you to everyone who responded to our Facebook post asking for help. Your quick action, kindness, and willingness to show upโ€”despite the weatherโ€”meant the world to us.

Itโ€™s moments like these that remind us we donโ€™t just live in a townโ€”we live in a community that truly looks after one another.

Thank you for being part of something truly special. ๐Ÿ’›

NSRI โ€“ STILL BAY โ€“ Tuesday, 1 July. A local well known and much loved man is sadly deceased:

Stรฉfan Grovรฉ, NSRI Stilbaai station commander, said:

At 15h58, Monday, 30 June, NSRI Still Bay duty crew were activated following reports of a local man in difficulties surf-skiing near to the local Still Bay jetty, upstream on the Goukou River.

The local 65 year old man, much loved to the local community and to NSRI, surf-skiing on the river with a friend, appeared to suddenly and unexpectedly fall out of his surf-ski near to the jetty.

An NSRI Still Bay crewman witnessed the incident and assisted the man's friend to recover the casualty from the water where CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation) efforts were commenced and the alarm was raised.

Our NSRI Still Bay crew and medics, WC Government Health EMS and the SA Police Services responded.

Extensive CPR efforts continued and the patient was transported by EMS ambulance to local doctors with CPR efforts continuing.

At doctors rooms, after all efforts to resuscitate the man were exhausted sadly the man was declared deceased by doctors.

Our thoughts, care and Condolences are conveyed to the family and friends of the sadly deceased local man Robbie Robbertze.

๐Ÿšจ WEEKEND TRAINING IN FULL FORCE AT NSRI STATION 31! ๐Ÿšจ

This weekend, our crew at NSRI Sea Rescue Station 31 took part in a full-scale development course, running from Friday through Sunday. It was all about improving the way we respond to emergencies โ€” through better skill, sharper instincts, and stronger teamwork. ๐Ÿ’ช๐ŸŒŠ

Over the weekend, we focused on: ๐Ÿชข Ropework
๐Ÿฉบ Medical scenarios and first aid
๐Ÿงญ Navigation
โš“๏ธ Collision regulations
๐Ÿšค Practical vessel handling ..and so much more.

These are the skills that save lives, and every volunteer here committed 100% to the training โ€” because we know that what we do during practice defines how we perform in real-world emergencies.

A massive thank you to Rian and Grant, who traveled all the way from Cape Town to deliver this specialized training. Your expertise, patience, and dedication were invaluable to us. ๐Ÿ™Œ

๐Ÿ“ธ๐ŸŽฅ Be sure to check out some of the photos and videos from the weekend below โ€” weโ€™re proud of the hard work and teamwork that went into every scenario.

๐Ÿšจ Sea Rescue Alert: Late-Night Flare Sightings ๐Ÿšจ

Weโ€™ve recently received reports of flares being spotted late at night. Weโ€™d like to extend a huge thank you to those who reported these sightings โ€” your vigilance helps us stay ready and respond quickly when needed! ๐Ÿ™๐ŸŒŠ

Reminder to the public and sea-faring community: Please always notify Sea Rescue immediately if you see a flare. Your call could save a life!

While flares are an essential tool for emergencies, firing a red flare without being in distress can lead to severe penalties, including fines and potentially legal action, and can also cause confusion and waste resources that could be used for genuine emergencies.

Stay safe, be responsible, and help us ensure every flare sighting leads to a timely and efficient rescue. ๐Ÿšค๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿšจ Sea Rescue Training Update ๐Ÿšจ

Our team recently completed a challenging land-based training session at Morris Point, simulating real-life medical scenarios. ๐Ÿž๏ธ

We took on a particularly tough scenario where we had to recover two casualties from a difficult terrain, involving a water exit followed by carrying them across a long stretch of loose rocks. It tested our skills, coordination, and ability to work under pressure. ๐Ÿ’ช๐ŸŒŠ

During training, we ask volunteers to step up as โ€˜patientsโ€™ to make these simulations as realistic as possible. By practicing these high-stress situations, we ensure that our crew is prepared to respond swiftly and efficiently during actual emergencies.

A big thank you to everyone who participated and supported this vital training. It's all part of our commitment to be ready for any situation when lives are on the line.

Every wave, every rope challenge, every swim session prepares us to be ready when someone needs us most.
Here at Station 31, we equip our volunteers to respond swiftly and selflessly, ensuring no call for help goes unanswered.
