Can I let you in on a little secret when working with little ones?

Their development will improve with positive reinforcement.

Working with them means that you have the privilege to help them learn and grow. When teaching an adult something new we simply ask them to do something, like "say please" or "say thank you". However, research, consulting with others, and my own experience has taught me that empowering little ones is a far more powerful teaching and development tool. They learn through observing us, therefore we model the behaviors we want them to learn.

Instead of instructing your little one, reinforce their activity through encouragement phrases like these:
- You can take another step
- You can try that broccoli
- You can say the sound again
- You can say "boat"

I believe in you, how powerful a message is that to your little love.

Let's talk about self-care...

I'm here to tell you that taking time for yourself is so important (and necessary!), especially when you dedicate yourself to helping others.

Here are just a few things that I love doing outside of work:
1️⃣ Doing Yoga
2️⃣ Hiking outdoors
3️⃣ Reading a book
4️⃣ Getting creative
5️⃣ Going on adventures

What makes you happy outside of work?

APHASIA - A language disorder that affects how you communicate. It is caused by damage to the language centers of the brain, which controls understanding, speaking and using signed language.

Aphasia does not make you less smart or cause problems with the way you think. However, it may affect your ability to communicate your thoughts easily. Aphasia may also make it hard for you to understand, read, or write.

Aphasia can affect people in different ways, and no two people will have the same changes or recovery. The severity and recovery of aphasia depend on a number of things — including the cause, the extent of damage to the brain, family support, and treatment.

2 million people live with aphasia. This means that they lose the ability to use and understand words. Sometimes only one or the other, but in other cases they may lose the ability of both.

Isn't that a scary fact?

This month helps to spread awareness of Aphasia and to encourage others to spread the word in support of those who have lost the ability to use words.

Today we seek to promote international togetherness, and awareness among children worldwide, and improving children's welfare.

How can you help our children?

One of the best ways to help is to sponsor a child and allow them the love, education, supplements, health care, and recreational activities that they deserve.

Raise your hands 🙌🏻 if you want to learn how to get your little one to combine words.

Instead of copying what your little one is saying, try adding a word or two to the original word. This will allow your little one to start associating more words with the ones that they already know.

Add different word types:

🐾 Verbs

🐾 Adjectives

🐾 Prepositions

🐾 Articles

Have some fun expanding their vocabulary!

"If you do what you love, you'll never work a day in your life." Mark Anthony

I love working with my little ones. There is no better feeling than when a little one says their first word, signs for the first time or has learned to say "there" instead of "fere".

Every goal, no matter how small is a celebration.

I love that I have the ability to make a difference in the life of all of my patients. Improving their speech, language, and communication allows them to enjoy the benefits of society and boosts their confidence in life and all that they do.

We ventured into the crazy world of spreads, dips, toppings, crackers and waffles.

You might be thinking how is this going to help my picky eater eat a bigger variety of foods?

Getting a picky eater to try new foods we need to increase their exposure to new foods and textures, the way they are represented, and also in combination with other textures.

My goal with this little one was to get him to spread our toppings (Nutella, honey, peanut butter, and cheese spread) on his choice of melba toast or waffles.

Be honest this little spread makes you excited as well!

The ultimate goal would be if he spread it on, and then took a bite.

But we have to start at the bottom of the 42 steps on the eating ladder.

1. Get him to be comfortable with all these textures and foods in front of him

2. Get him to interact with spreads - start with dipping a spoon in, and move it around. Now we can scoop some up and lift it out of the container.

3. Try to smell it… (wave the aroma to you as we learned in science class).

4. Now choose the base: melba toast or waffle… tricky very different texture journeys.

5. Can we spread it on the base… maybe get some on our fingers…maybe try and lick it off… discovery! …oooh I love this flavour.

He opted for licking the Nutella off the base. He wasn’t ready for a bite yet. He also ended up licking it off his fingers after dipping them straight into the Nutella.

We made leaps. Every little step up the ladder is a giant leap.

How can you mix things up for your little one?
