โ—Attention: Women of All Agesโ—There's so much information and awareness currently out there on how GOOD and ESSENTIAL strength & resistance training is for women. Every age and in every life stage.

Having an appropriate amount of healthy skeletal muscle is important and critical for life - making daily tasks like lifting your babies & grandbabies, carrying NON-plastic ๐Ÿ˜‰ shopping bags, moving about, and walking up and down stairs, a whole.lot.easier.

Skeletal muscle is no longer JUST associated with aesthetics, performance and strength - it's the Organ of Longevity - linked with reducing the risk of chronic diseases (aka Cardiovascular Disease, Type 2 Diabetes, Obesity), by helping to regulate cholesterol, blood pressure, and blood glucose. โฌ…๏ธ THIS, and so many more reasons why describes muscle as "the body's armour" and champions it as a major role player in HOW we age.

Yoga session for Women's Day/Week/Month with Learning In Reach Parents at RAD in Lavender Hill 07.08.24 ๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ‘‘๐Ÿ’ƒ๐Ÿฝ๐Ÿ‘ฏโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ๐Ÿชท๐Ÿงก

My heart was brimming with pride & love for these women and this session.

Last week, I had the absolute pleasure and privilege to share a Yoga session with Learning In Reach staff, teachers and parents at our now weekly sessions in Lavender Hill. We spent the session reflecting on the women in our lives, who they have been to us, what they mean to us, the experiences we have shared, and the lessons we have learnt from them. We reflected on our personal growth and self-acknowledgement. We shared stories of inspiration.

We used Yoga poses like Goddess Pose (above), Mountain Pose, Standing Archer Pose and balancing sequences together with affirmations to highlight our physical strength, balance, resilience, worth and ability to achieve the goals that we set for ourselves. (An important reminder of that which we already have within us.) I revelled and breathed in the beauty of the group repeating the words out loud.

Our session ended with a gratitude practice, exploring what each of us was grateful for about being a woman, feeling a sense of appreciation for our own WOMAN-NESS.

I am so grateful for this work and for this life. For growing into my womanhood, being held by other women, and holding other women up. I am grateful to have learnt this lesson๐Ÿ™๐Ÿผ

I'm also grateful to all the women who have been a part of my life. Thank you for your wisdom๐Ÿ’œ

Our Tuesday evening Grassy Park Yoga Class is in search of a new home! We are looking for a safe, gentle indoor space. Parking behind a gate for evening classes would be ideal. An attached outdoor facility would be a bonus! Private gym/wellness space/sports club facilities are what we are aiming for. An empty space where we can expand our Yoga and Movement classes from and offer in-person coaching/training is also an option. Please connect with Tasneem if you own/know of something appropriate. Closing meditation with New World Foundation 19.12.23 ๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ // Yesterday was my first session for the New Year and I got to spend it with an incredible bunch of humans who work for an organisation in Lavender Hill. I've been working with New World Foundation since September of last year. Each week I visit the Foundation's HQ in Lavender Hill and we spend our sessions moving, breathing and sitting in stillness. It has been a deeply moving experience for me, and work that I hope to continue and to be able to share with more NGOs/NPOs in the future. // I would like to be able to gather Yoga/exercise mats for the Foundation, so our sessions can expand and include more movements and practices on the floor. As part of this wish, I hope that our community will be able to assist + support in gathering/donating old or unused mats and/or props and in sharing + spreading the word. As we look forward to the year ahead, I'm taking a moment to remember + savour the sweet gifts of 2023๐Ÿ™๐ŸผGrateful for this practice, for this community + opportunity to share๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ Thank you to Everyone who shared in a class, who carved out time for themself, who remembered a tool they learned + used it on their own in their daily life, who took the time to share feedback, who gave us space to practice together in their home. Understanding the changes and fluctuations happening in our body during our Menstrual Cycle ๐Ÿ” and having the knowledge to support them means bringing โš–๏ธ balance โš–๏ธ to our cycle and, subsequently, our lives โ˜ฏ๏ธ

Over the next month, I'll be diving into a topic that is close to my heart. It recently came up in a conversation with a dear friend, and I've been itching to explore it further in our weekly Yoga practices. Anyone out there suffering from bouts of or constant pain anywhere in and around the neck, shoulders and back? ๐Ÿ™‹๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ Almost all of us have dealt with some type of Musculoskeletal pain in one or more of these regions before. If you haven't, keep doing what you're doing๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿผ

But if you have, or are currently still suffering, you know how much it sucks right? And how much it can affect you physically, psychologically, at home, at work, your mood and your emotions ๐Ÿ˜ช๐ŸŽข

The people who do all the cool and necessary research are proving how effective stretching can be in managing and reducing pain ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ

A study done in 2016, reported significant improvements in neck function, neck and shoulder pain and quality of life across 96 office workers with moderate-to-severe neck pain. All they did, was stretched! ๐Ÿคฏ

A more recent study done this year compared Hatha (physical) yoga to stretching, and found that Yoga was as effective as stretching in reducing pain โœ… improving psychological status โœ… and physical performance โœ… in office workers.

Yes please! ๐Ÿ˜ More Yoga! ๐Ÿคธ๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ

๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿฝโ€โ™€๏ธ Move slowly
๐Ÿซ Breathe (throughout)
๐Ÿ•“ Go for as long/short as you have time
๐Ÿ—“๏ธ Do it daily, before you get up out of bed/before you put your head down to sleep.

The research showed that stretching twice daily, 3-5 per week, for 4 weeks resulted in significant improvements.
