Mother’s Day is often portrayed as a joyful celebration of love and gratitude—but for those carrying a Mother Wound, it can be one of the most painful days of the year. It may stir up unresolved grief, unmet needs, complicated memories, or the longing for a connection that never existed. While others are posting tributes and dinners with their moms and with family, those with a strained, absent, or harmful maternal relationship may feel isolated, triggered, or unseen. This day can be a silent struggle—a reminder of what was missing, of what was hoped for but never received. If this is your experience, know that your feelings are valid. You are not alone. There is strength in acknowledging the pain, and healing is possible—even if the past cannot be rewritten.

Join me in conversation with Sarah Jane on Cape Talk this Sunday at 8:10am, to unpack the Mother wound and ways to heal.

“Emotionally immature moms need a scapegoat because they need somewhere to project their frustrations. They have no emotional regulation skills so their kids get to be their punching bag”
