Dear Members

The Wierdabrug CPF Sector 3 has received multiple complaints over the last 2 months of a scam and possible fraud.

*How the scam works*
You were unfortunate to experience a crime and reported it to your local police station. Once you receive the case number you get a phone call hours, or days later informing you that your stolen goods were recovered. You are then requested to pay for a courier fee to get your goods shipped to you. Another MO is to ask you for a fee to remove your vehicle/motorcycle from the stolen vehicle/motorcycle database to avoid being suspected as a criminal while driving your recovered vehicle.

*What you should do*
If you receive such call do not engage or provide any further information about yourself. Report the incident to your nearest police station and provide the details to the CPF S3 Emergency (WhatsApp) We re working with the local station to obtain as much information as possible to find the source of the scam.

This scam has been around for a number of years across the country and the MO changes almost daily to defraud unsuspecting individuals but we have seen a rise in our sector over December and January to date.

Please remain vigilant and safe in your day to day movement and report any suspicious persons, vehicles or situations immediate on this group or by phoning the CPF S3 emergency number on 0128840160 24/7.

Yours in Safety

The article published by The Citizen highlights the situation along the R101 and the challenges faced by City of Tshwane in addressing this matter. While the article provides some context, it does not reflect the additional steps the City of Tshwane has to resolve the issue:

1. A PAIA application was submitted to Gauteng Province to obtain crucial information, but no response has been received.

2. The matter was escalated to the Public Protector, who unfortunately directed that separate applications must be submitted for each of the six relevant departments. So far, two applications have been finalized, and City of Tshwane is actively working on the remaining ones.

3. A complaint was also lodged with the Human Rights Commission, but no feedback has been received from them either.

These actions were likely not included in the article because none of the entities involved have provided feedback yet. Despite these challenges, City of Tshwane remain committed to pursuing all avenues to ensure this matter is addressed effectively.
