SET IT DOWN
Yesterday, I stepped out of my car to make the trip into my office. On an average day, I resemble a mini packhorse, but yesterday, the cargo was even more than usual. Mom-size (it’s-all-in-here) handbag, lunch cooler box, work backpack, LARGE plastic box containing our new juvenile Hadeda, accessories and food bag for said juvenile Hadeda and my lap top bag. I flung as much as I could over my shoulders, picked up the Hadeda box and peered into the backseat of my car wondering how I was going to add just that one more item (my laptop bag) to the already towering pillar of my being…
I started to lean in… I realized in that moment that if I leant just one more millimeter, I would be thrown off-balance, and the result would be a pile of feathers and files floating all around me…
Right there, I made a decision…
I looked at the waiting bag, and I set down all my expectations of adding it to the burdensome pile…
I didn’t need it right then.
Right there.
Or in the next few hours.
The load was already too much…
For many people I know, life, with all its twists and hurlings, has already felt like too much this year…
I know it’s hard to set things down.
To hand them over.
To ask for help.
Especially when our childhood wiring has us set in “do it all yourself” mode.
But when we try to rush through life in this manner, we ARE going to land up in a pile of feathers and files, and have a chaotic mess to clean up…
I sat at my desk and reframed…
I consciously breathed…
I reprioritized…
The actual to-do-list… the admin deadlines… the emotional load that I was holding…
The things that needed carrying today…
The things that I could set down until tomorrow…
The things that I could ask for help with…
If you’re feeling overwhelmed, SET IT DOWN.
Not everything needs to be carried TODAY.
Not everything needs to be done in this moment.
Despite what your wiring may tell you…
Some things can wait. Some things can be designated.
Free up some air to breathe.
Whatever you may have flung around your shoulders today,
SET IT DOWN.
You don’t need to carry it all at once.
And you don’t need to carry it all alone.
With love
Naomi♥️
