On the 9th July, SAAHIP KZN Coastal and Peach Pilates relaunched and hosted the “Stretch for a Smile”initiative to raise funds towards Operation Smile.

Operation Smile raises funds, builds awareness and gives free reconstructive surgery to patients with cleft conditions worldwide.

A huge THANK YOU! to everyone who joined us for a stretch in studio and to those who stretch deep into their pockets to donate toward this initiative.

On behalf of SAAHIP KZNC, I would like to extend a hearty thanks to Sarah and Caitlyn from Peach Pilates for going the extra mile and collaborating with us to make this event a success! We’ve raised R13080!!! TWO SMILES!

I’m pleased to announce at SAAHIP KZNC’s AGM last night, our new chairperson is Thandeka Njapha.

I wish Thandeka, and the incoming exec team all the best in their future endeavours and I have no doubt they will fly the SAAHIP Banner high - continuing to grow the profession and serve the profession.

On a personal note, it has been a rewarding experience to serve the branch and the organisation as chairperson over the past two years. I will continue to be part of the exec committee as the immediate past chair. God bless and best wishes to you all.

Over the past month SAAHIP KZN COASTAL has collaborated with the final year pharmacy students from the discipline of Pharmaceutical Sciences at UKZN.

The students created informative posters that go a long way in providing valuable information and clarity to pharmacists and also the public at large.

The following topics were exceptionally well graphically represented on the posters:

1. Detailing pharmacovigilance and adverse drug reporting post Covid-19 immunisation
2. Addressing vaccine hesitancy
3. Educating on guidance on reporting of side effects for both patients and health care workers

These posters will certainly help our information drive to better equip pharmacists during the pandemic. It will provide an excellent opportunity for members to have a much greater insight on the above topics.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the students for helping provide detailed information on extremely relevant topics.

Infection control Sister at King Dinizulu hospital, demonstrating the correct hand washing procedure to the 1st year Pharmacy students from UKZN.

It was an honor and a privilege for SAAHIP KZNC to be invited to participate in the pharmacy open day at King Dinizulu Hospital. A dynamic team lead by Dr Nirupa Misra, pharmacy manager and SAAHIP KZNC exec member. The event was presented to health care workers from multiple fields. It effectively highlighted the critical role played by pharmacists in medicine supply, Covid-19 vaccination campaigns, CCMDD, Promoting infection control and AMS.

We all have a role to play to improve the health care systems of our province and country and it starts with each one of us. As Dr Misra drove home the message “each one teach one”. With the correct knowledge we can all pioneer to be medicine champions bringing about positive change. An excellent quality initiative that was an effective culmination to pharmacy month.
