A Journey of Self-Discovery
Mesmerized with the process of conception, pregnancy, labour and birth; I imagined no better career for me than being involved in the birth process. I thought that midwifery was my calling and began my nursing career in 2012. After having my first child, I decided to lay my career goal aside and instead focus on being a full-time mother to my daughter.
I looked back at my birthing experience and how in awe I was with myself for discovering a power in me that I never knew existed until the moment I birthed my daughter into this world; the power of my body, my mind, my groans, my ability to listen to my instinctive needs from within, and my capacity to fall so deeply in love with myself, my husband, my baby, and the incredible moment that had just taken place.
My second birth was with greater difficulty (regarding my labour) than my first but I knew that I could do it, after all, I was Super Woman with my first, and I was determined to do it again. I experienced a birthing team with my second birth that I had not experienced before. Through the intense difficultly, I was fully supported; my second midwife acted as my doula as well, without me even requesting it. She just did. Despite my second time being a difficult one, I managed to birth my second daughter with ease and courage, simply because of the support I received. This is when I realized that being a doula, a woman’s support, was my real calling. I wanted other women to feel that same security and confidence that I did that day.
Those two impacting journeys of discovering my own hidden power and courage, was so life changing and beautiful that it sparked a desire in me to help other women walk their own road of deep self-discovery, hidden within them - a Super Woman beyond their imaginations.
