3 Gut Health Mistakes Women Over 40 Make That Keep Them Bloated & Tired

🙋‍♀️Let’s talk about something that doesn’t get enough attention: your gut.

🌿 Perimenopause can bring unexpected changes — irregular periods, hot flashes, weight gain, mood swings, and more. It’s often confused with menopause, which only adds to the uncertainty. The phase that tends to challenge most women is perimenopause, with its unpredictable hormonal shifts.

This transition can span around 20 years, usually starting in your late 30s to early 40s and continuing into your late 50s or early 60s.

As a certified functional nutrition and health coach, here are a 5 things your gut would want you to know:

1. I’m not always a fan of wheat, that bloating, gas, reflux feeling you feel, ya that cause its can comprise the intestinal permeability which can lead to many other issues. Best way to test if it’s a no -go for you is eliminate it for 4 weeks and see what your gut says when you try it again.

2. It gets lonely without prebiotics
Prebiotics are the food that feed the diverse range of bacteria in your gut or probiotics as you might know them. Prebiotics can be found in food such as asparagus, artichoke, bananas, onions, garlic, oats, apples etc

3. Feeling down it might be your food, when your gut isn’t in a happy space it can under product neurotransmitter such as serotonin. Low serotonin can contribute to anxiety & depression.

4. I’m not in a rush, why are you? I cant digest properly when you eat to fast and forget to chew, the slower the better then I can really do my job.

5. I feel those nerves too, so please take time to rest and destress as what happens in the brain happens in the gut.

You don’t need a science degree to support your body, just a few simple basics:
✨ Add protein to every meal.
✨ Pair carbs with fibre or healthy fats (no “naked carbs”).
✨ Cut back on alcohol (your liver will thank you).
✨ Prioritise sleep and stress, your body needs the rest as much as the food.

It’s not about perfection, it’s about small, steady steps that add up to big results. 🌸
