🐍 Snake Safety Training for Municipal Teams | Paarl, Western Cape 🌿

Yesterday, we proudly kicked off the year by presenting a Snake Identification, Handling & Snakebite Treatment Course to dedicated delegates working across various municipal sites in Paarl, Western Cape.

Municipal teams are often the first to encounter snakes while maintaining public spaces such as cemeteries, holiday resorts, and municipal grounds. This training equips them with the practical knowledge and confidence required to manage these encounters safely, protecting both workers and the public.

Throughout the day, participants were guided through:
✔️ Accurate identification of venomous and non-venomous snake species commonly encountered in municipal environments
✔️ Practical first aid principles for managing snakebite emergencies until advanced medical care arrives
✔️ Safe and ethical snake handling and relocation techniques
✔️ Workplace health & safety considerations when operating in public and high-traffic areas

Training of this nature plays a critical role in reducing risk, improving on-site decision-making, and ensuring municipal teams are prepared to respond calmly and effectively when snakes are encountered during daily operations.

Access Professional Development remains committed to delivering practical, accredited, and industry-relevant snake safety training to organisations operating in high-risk environments across South Africa.

🦁 NEW COURSE LAUNCH | 2025 | GAME FARM SAFETY 🦓

Today we are proud to present our final new course release for 2025, delivered onsite at a game farm just outside Modimolle, Limpopo.

This specialised course has been developed specifically for game farms, lodges, reserves, and wildlife operations where staff and guests operate in remote environments with limited access to immediate medical care and real exposure to dangerous animals.

Unlike standard First Aid courses, this programme focuses on:
• Dangerous animal encounters and trauma patterns
• Severe bleeding control, wound packing, and tourniquet use
• Snakebite, scorpion, spider, and bee envenomation
• Anaphylaxis recognition and Epipen use
• Remote CPR and ranger-specific resuscitation
• Safe patient packaging and transport in 4×4 / bakkie environments
• Correct EMS and HEMS activation and handover
• Decision-making when evacuation may take hours

This training is designed to give rangers, guides, farm managers, and staff the skills to:
✔ Act decisively in high-risk wildlife incidents
✔ Stabilise critically injured patients in remote terrain
✔ Protect both human life and operational continuity
✔ Meet legal and duty-of-care expectations for guests and employees

For game farms, safety is not just a compliance issue, it is a reputation issue, a guest experience issue, and a moral responsibility.

This marks the final addition to our 2025 training portfolio, and one of the most intensive, realistic, and context-specific programmes we have developed to date.

📍 Presented onsite | Game Farm Environment
🎯 Built for real-world wildlife operations

🐍 ANTIVENOM UPDATE – GOOD NEWS FROM SAVP!

We're excited to share that the South African Vaccine Producers (SAVP) has released new batches of life-saving antivenoms, a major step forward in resolving the shortage experienced across South Africa this year.

✅ Polyvalent Antivenom – 1400 units released (12 Dec 2025)
✅ Scorpion Antivenom – 578 units released (10 Dec 2025)
🕷️ Spider Antivenom – Expected: 30 Jan 2026
🐍 Echis Antivenom – Expected: 15 Jan 2026
🐍 Boomslang Antivenom – Expected: 15 Feb 2026
(31 units available now for emergencies – expires Feb 2026)

🌬️🐍 Snake Safety Training for the Wind Energy Sector | Prieska, Northern Cape

Last week Tuesday, our team delivered a Snake Identification, Handling & Snakebite Treatment Course to delegates in the wind energy sector based in Prieska, Northern Cape, a region where expansive open terrain, turbine foundations, service roads, and substations create frequent human–snake interaction zones.

Wind farm teams often operate in remote, high-temperature, and low-vegetation environments, making snake awareness and correct response skills essential for both personal safety and uninterrupted operations.

During the session, delegates were equipped with:
✔️ Accurate identification of medically important snake species common to the Northern Cape
✔️ Practical, safe handling techniques for on-site snake encounters
✔️ Evidence-based snakebite treatment protocols, including pressure immobilisation and emergency management
✔️ Understanding how terrain, heat, and seasonal changes influence snake activity
✔️ Integration of snake safety into broader workplace OHS and emergency response systems

👉 If you work on a wind farm, what wildlife encounters have you experienced on duty? Your input helps build awareness across the sector.

Access Professional Development proudly supports South Africa’s renewable energy industry with accredited, practical, and conservation-aligned snake safety training that protects people while promoting responsib

✈️🐍 Snake Safety Training for Aviation Firefighters | Kimberley, Northern Cape

On Thursday, our team had the privilege of presenting a Snake Identification, Handling & Snakebite Treatment Course to a dedicated group of firefighters at a valued corporate client within the aviation sector in Kimberley, Northern Cape.

Airfields and aviation facilities present a unique operational environment, with open grassed areas, perimeter fencing, hangars, sub-stations, and service trenches all providing ideal shelter for snakes. For aviation firefighters, who already operate in high-risk emergency settings, the ability to confidently identify, handle, and medically manage snake encounters is a critical extension of their emergency response capability.

During the session, delegates were equipped with:
✔️ Accurate identification of medically important snake species common to the Northern Cape
✔️ Safe, practical handling techniques aligned with emergency responder environments
✔️ Evidence-based snakebite treatment protocols for rapid, life-threatening envenomation
✔️ Scene safety and risk management during snake-related call-outs
✔️ Integration of snake incidents into broader aviation emergency response systems

👉 Have you ever encountered a snake during airfield inspections, perimeter patrols, or emergency operations? Share your experience, your insight could help improve safety awareness across the aviation sector.

Access Professional Development is proud to support South Africa’s aviation emergency responders with accredited, operationally relevant snake safety training that protects lives, ensures readiness, and promotes responsible wildlife management.

When the Alarm Sounds… Will Your Team Panic or Perform?

🚨 Emergencies don’t care how busy your operations are.
Fire, gas leaks, structural failure, chemical spills – when something goes wrong, your team will default to their training (or lack of it).

Our latest blog unpacks why Emergency Evacuation Training is not just a tick-box exercise, but a strategic blueprint for a safer, more resilient workplace.
You’ll learn how planning, practice, and clear roles turn chaos into controlled response.

Bad Interviews = Bad Data. Bad Data = Bad Decisions.

🗣️ Most investigators don’t realise how easily a witness interview can go wrong.

Leading questions.
Assumptions.
Rushing the process.
Interviewing in public.
Judgmental tone.

These small mistakes cause witnesses to shut down, change their story, or forget critical information.

In our latest blog, we reveal:
✔️ The do’s and don’ts of witness interviews
✔️ How to ask unbiased, open-ended questions
✔️ When (and when not) to interview staff
✔️ How to avoid contaminating testimonies
✔️ How to build trust so employees speak openly

If your team conducts interviews without formal training, this will be an eye-opener.
