Keep them healthy, keep YOU healthy! They’re working 24/7 for you! Be aware of signs like fatigue, swollen ankles, and a change in urination. Early detection is key!

Gentlemen, let’s talk health.🏥
We often focus on staying fit and strong, but what’s happening on the inside is just as important. Regular health screenings are crucial for preventing serious conditions like heart disease and cancer.

Here’s a quick checklist of essential screenings to discuss with your doctor:
⦿ Heart health: Blood pressure and cholesterol checks. At least once a year, as needed, especially if you have a family history of heart disease.
⦿ Cancer Screening: Prostate (ages 50+) and colorectal (ages 45/50+)
⦿ Skin Checks: Look for any new or changing spots.

Prioritising your health is a sign of strength.

Is your nose running as fast as the season is changing?
That’s likely thanks to spring allergies! Here’s a quick look at what’s causing your sniffles:
• The CULPRIT: Pollen. As South African trees and grasses start pollinating, they release tiny grains into the air.
• The REACTION: For those with allergies, the immune system mistakes pollen as an invader and releases histamine. This causes the itchy eyes, sneezing, and congestion you feel.
• SYMPTOMS to watch for: A stuffy, runny nose, constant sneezing, itchy or watery eyes, sinus pressure, and even fatigue.

Don’t let allergies get you down. Chat to Dr. Johan about relief options and enjoy the spring season!

High cholesterol is often referred to as a "silent" condition because it typically does not present any obvious symptoms. This leads many individuals to be unaware of their cholesterol levels until they undergo a routine blood test.

However, despite its lack of symptoms, high cholesterol levels can significantly increase the risk of serious health conditions if left untreated.

If you are 45 years and over, it's time to see your General Practitioner for a cholesterol check as part of a Heart Health check.

09/06/2025

A body temperature of 37.5 ° Celsius or higher is a fever. Fever commonly is associated with feeling cold and then hot. This is our body's way of trying to kill the infection.

The most reliable ways to measure body temperature are:
1. Under the tongue
2. In the armpit
3. In the ear
An infrared thermometer works the best!

Please contact your healthcare provider immediately when:
• There are signs of dehydration.
• Having chills and sweating.
• Fever lasts for more than a day.
• Lethargic / hard to wake up.
• Difficulty breathing.
• Pain in one area of the body.
• Child is younger than 3 months and temperature is thirty-eight °C or higher.

Seek a proper diagnosis to receive better treatment. You can contact Dr. Johan Haarhoff's office at 016 422 1071 or email bookings@drjohanhaarhoff.co.za for an appointment.
