📜 National Certificate in Leather Manufacturing Processes
This programme offers hands-on experience and a chance to build a career in the leather industry.

About the Programme
Duration: Approximately 8 months (until competency is achieved).
Contract: Learners will sign with Mossop Leather and the FP&M Seta.
Stipend: R714 per week (for a full 42-hour work week).
Learning Structure:
75% Practical Work – Hands-on training on the factory floor.
25% Classroom Work – Theoretical knowledge to build your skillset.
Certification: Receive a nationally recognised qualification upon successful completion.
Career Opportunities: Apply for temporary or permanent vacancies post-learnership.
Requirements
To qualify, applicants must:

Have passed Grade 12.
Meet academic requirements:
Mathematics Literacy and English Second Language: Level 4 (50-59%), OR
Mathematics and English First Language: Level 2 (30-39%).
Be prepared for:
Aptitude (psychometric) testing.
Medical screening and a drug test.
Be physically strong, healthy, and fit.
Reside in the Wellington/Paarl area.
Be ready to start the programme in March 2025.

Workplace Skills Plan: Developing the Next Generation of Leather Innovators🌟👜

At Mossop Leathers, we are committed to nurturing the future of leather innovation. We offer young, unemployed South Africans the opportunity to gain education, work experience, and a valuable skillset in the manufacturing sector.

Unemployed Learnerships: 📚👩‍🎓
Our internal training program, funded by the Sector Education and Training Authority (SETA) and coordinated by Mossop Leather, provides fundamental and core models to learners. The practical component includes training on the factory floor (Finishing and Retan). In 2020, fifteen students were found competent, and ten were permanently employed in March 2021. The program has a track record of success, with many graduates securing Junior Manager positions at the tannery.

Internship Program 🔄👨‍💼
Also funded by SETA, this program places students who have completed a national certificate level 6 into our business for practical training. Each intake includes three students from Boland College, a local institution. After 18 months of training, new students take their place. Over half of our past interns have secured permanent placements after completing their training, demonstrating the program's effectiveness in preparing students for the job market.

In today's insightful dive into our Leatherprint Approach, we delve deeper into our commitment to one of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) with our Ampithreathre, symbolizing our societal role, as we've shared in our previous post. Each Mesh cow artwork embodies an SDG, showcasing applied action towards them. Today, our focus shines on Goal 4: Good Health and Well-being.

At Mossop Leather, we steadfastly uphold the well-being of all stakeholders – our employees, contractors, visitors, and the broader community. We achieve this through a robust framework of policies, committees, infrastructure, and compliance agreements. But our commitment doesn't stop there. We take pride in offering additional support through our on-site clinic, where we provide:

🩺 **On-site Clinic Services:**
A medical sister is available twice a week for family planning, medical assessments, drug screenings, and dispensing medications for minor ailments. Additionally, we administer yearly flu shots. Moreover, all our employees enjoy medical coverage through individual plans or bargaining council arrangements.

👓 **Optometry and Dentistry:**
For employees affiliated with a union, we extend benefits such as eye testing and discounted spectacles from optometrists, along with subsidized visits to dentists.

🤝 Counselling Services:
Recognizing the importance of mental health and future planning, Mossop offers voluntary counselling sessions. Our clinic supports employees in navigating family planning decisions and responsibilities, echoing the United Nations' stance on family planning as pivotal to gender equality and women's empowerment.

The United Nations Global Compact serves as a guiding light for organisations worldwide, offering a framework to integrate better and best practices into business operations through the lens of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

At Mossop Leather, we recognise the importance of aligning our actions with the UN's SDGs, which focus on human rights, labour, environment, and anti-corruption efforts. We are wholeheartedly committed to this Compact, and our LEATHERPRINT goals and actions reflect this dedication.

To symbolise our commitment to sustainability visually, we found Cape Town-based artist Gareth Nyandoro to create a strong statement piece in an installation featuring 12 cows. Training opportunity for 15 unemployed Learners in Wellington
National Certificate in Leather Manufacturing Processes.

INFORMATION ABOUT THE PROGRAMME:

The program will last until competency is achieved - approx. 8 months.
•
Successful learners will sign a contract with Mossop Leather and the FP&M Seta.
•
The learners will be paid a Stipend of R676 per week (full 5 days, 42 hours per week)
•
Practical factory work (75% of the time) on the factory floor, and Classroom work (25% of the time).
•
At the end of the Learnership, successful learners will receive a nationally recognised qualification.
REQUIREMENTS:
•
Must have passed Gr 12.
•
Must have passed Mathematics Literacy and English Second Language at level 4 (50-59%);
•
or Mathematics and English First Language at level 2 (30-39%).
•
Must be prepared to undergo Aptitude (psychometric) testing.
•
Must be prepared to undergo medical screening and a drug test.
•
Must be prepared to start with the program in February 2024.
