Advice vs DIY:

A good adviser will assist with the construction of a robust, regularly-reviewed portfolio. They will be detached and keep to good investing habits.

Clients who choose to 'DIY' often fail to maximise returns because they:

1) Fail to sufficiently diversify their portfolio
2) Have a bias towards UK funds
3) Lack proper asset allocation
4) Tend to under or over-trade
5) Make buy/sell decisions based on their emotional reaction to market conditions
6) Remain 'out of the market' too often
7) Fail to regularly rebalance their portfolio

When investing, it is impossible to time the market.

Fidelity research (between 01/01/1992 and 31/12/2015) shows some amazing facts.

FTSE 100 Investing:

- Total return for whole period - 486%
- Total return minus 5 best days - 294%
- Total return minus 30 best days - 28%

Over the years, we have heard many rumours before budgets. The Financial Times and other sources are reporting that George Osborne will switch Pension Tax Relief to a new flat rate - between 25% and 33% for everyone. If this does occur, then higher rate (40% & 45%) tax payers would lose out. If you fit into this category, you should consider making any pension contribution before 16th March (budget day).

Contact me if you want to discuss.

A statement from Ray concerning how you could save up to £140,000 in Inheritance Tax:

"As promised, the government are introducing Inheritance Tax (IHT) saving assistance to property owners, to be phased from April 2017.

By 2020, this could save as much as £140,000 on your IHT when the family home passes to children on death.

Feel free to give me a call on 01702 344 909 if you want to know how this will impact you and your family in the future."
