Congratulations to all grade new grade 8s and 10s. Don't stop from there, remember education is now cheap especially in government schools. Make sure you take advantage of the free education policy and also remember if you're going to a boarding school, apply for CDF bursaries.

We are in 16 days of activism against gender based violence.

We are seeing so many cases of people violating each others rights because of gender differences in our district.

If you see this message kindly educate someone about GBV and advise them to seek medical and legal attention.

Together we can end GBV.

SOME SAD FACTS ABOUT AFRICA

1. It is the leading continent with most children under 18 out of school at 98 million (UNESCO)

2. It is the leading continent in starvation with almost fifth of it's population battling with malnutrition and 55 million of those are children under 5 years of age.

3. It is the leading continent with most child labourers according to international Labour Organization (ILO), numbers reveal about 72 million children are child labourers.

4. It is the poorest continent on earth with about 490 million people living in extreme poverty that is living on less than $1.9 dollars in a day

5. It is the leading continent with most Gender based violence cases with about 31% women reporting that they have been abused in their homes.

6 It is the continent known for low levels of sanitation, high levels of infectious disease prevalence such as water borne diseases, HIV\AIDS and other diseases.

It is so disheartening to see these ugly facts and we as a district we are part of these statistics but it should be our belief if we work together as government, local government, traditional leaders, politicians, non-governmental organizations, communities and individuals.

All these challenges have solutions, our call is that every one of us despite our education status, tribe and political affiliation to give out solutions.

What are some of the solutions do you think the government, local government and as individuals should put in place to solve these problems?

32,000 teen pregnancies in east

OVER 32,000 teenage pregnancies have been recorded in Eastern Province from last year to the first quarter of 2024.

Provincial health director Mathews Ng’ambi said despite concerted efforts by the Ministry of Health and other stakeholders, the province continues to grapple with alarmingly high numbers of teenage pregnancies.

Dr Ng’ambi said the number of teen pregnancies is higher than those being recorded in other provinces.

“The number stands quite high among all the provinces of Zambia and it worries me,” he said.

Additionally, in the 2023 data, the province recorded 93,000 new HIV infections, with 610 of these cases affecting adolescents directly.

Dr Ng’ambi emphasised that the Ministry of Health is actively collaborating with various ministries and local chiefs to ensure that all pregnant teenagers receive essential services to address their needs.

“For us as a sector, we value the good health of adolescents as they are the future of our country,” he said.

He further stated that as a ministry, there are many programmes in place to cater for adolescents in districts.

He said data-driven insights provide a critical foundation for informed decision-making and resource allocation to effectively address these intertwined health issues.

Just witnessed the 1st Graduation of Registered Nurses from Lumezi St Joseph college of nursing, held in the premises of Lumezi Mission Hospital. Gratitude to the Sisters of our Lady of victory of Kilimanjaro who are the pioneers of this institution that saw 82 students graduate with a diploma in registered nursing.

Can anything Good come from Nazareth? Yes it can, Jesus came from there.

Really the geographical location of a place isn't a reason for failure, but mindset.

Chasefu people get inspired.
