Founded in 2003 by a Zambian YWAM couple, Lamech and Elizabeth Kabisi in Chipata, Eastern Zambia, and was officially registered in 2006 with the Zambian Government, Given a Certificate of Incorporation number 63423, and is governed by a Board of directors, they are a policy making body, to whom the Executive Director is accountable to. MISSION STATEMENT…Advancing God’s Kingdom by empowering vulnerable groups of people to know what their creator (God) meant them to be in Life now & in the Life to come… Ephesians 2:10, for we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. MANAGEMENT: The Executive Director (LAMECH KABISI) heads the management committee that ensures a smooth running of programs and is accountable to the Board of Directors. POFREL Zambia, explored many profit making projects, but settled on helping marginalized and vulnerable groups of people, namely; ORPHANS, VUNERABLE CHILDREN, WIDOWS and SINGLE MOTHERS. We reach out to the Children in the Streets, and put them in a Rehabilitation, Discipleship, and Feeding programs, and we sponsor them back to Schools and integrate them in the Community, as we identify their Parents or Relatives. We also identify Orphans in the Community and sponsor them back to schools. THE PROBLEM STATEMENT:
Orphans and vulnerable children are NEEDY, are often forced into drug abuse, scavenging and child labour for survival. The abject poverty in their families deprives them of an opportunity for Education and a bright future. These Children have no access to LOVE, CARE, COMPASSIOIN, PROTECTION, EDUCATION, HEALTH CARE and PROPER SHELTER. Hence losing hopes, dignity and integrity in society, and some of them have made the street as an alternative home. HIV/AIDS affected/infected families suffer from social stigma and are marginalized in society. These vulnerable people have a right to medical services, good food, love, care, compassion, protection and proper shelter. But they have been denied most of these basic needs if not all. Since the concerned community has not taken this as an urgent issue, in putting up initiatives to care for the increasing number of such vulnerable people, POFREL ZAMBIA, was therefore founded with a Christian Mandate, and has set up strategies to address the alarming need and bridge the existing gap among vulnerable people for a self-sustaining future, with a Christian’s Holistic Approach. Following a careful assessment of the needs of the street children, orphans, HIV/AIDS affected/infected families, widows, youths and young adults in the trend of helping them secure a good future, it was deemed necessary to institute a RESOURCE CENTRE and RESOURCE MOBILIZATION and Link the needy with the resources in order to address deficiencies in practice of empowering marginalized people to become self-reliant and productive members of the community and Society at large. For the coming year 2012, we are planning and looking forward to help, and support 120 to 150 Orphans in Education, Feeding, Discipleship and rehabilitation programs, and provide descent shelter to about 50 to 60 Orphans.
