🕯️ A Call for Urgent Action on Student Welfare in Zambia.
In recent days, our nation has been shaken by the heartbreaking loss of two university students whose futures were filled with promise. Their sudden passing has not only left their families and friends in mourning but has also left the entire country asking difficult questions.
These were not just students. They were young men preparing to serve their communities, contribute to national development and carry the dreams of families who sacrificed for their education. Their loss is more than personal, it is a national tragedy and a wake-up call.
Every year, thousands of young Zambians leave home with one mission: to study hard, graduate and build a better future. They carry the hopes of parents, siblings and entire communities. Yet, too often, their journeys are overshadowed by insecurity, mental health struggles and systemic neglect.
This raises an urgent question we can no longer ignore:
Are our campuses truly safe for students?
As a nation, we cannot continue to treat student welfare as an afterthought. Universities are not just centers of learning, they are homes for young people during their most vulnerable years. Protecting students means protecting the future of Zambia itself.
For real change, we must go beyond words and take concrete action.
Let these recent losses not be in vain. Let them ignite a movement for safer and more supportive learning environments. Every student deserves to feel safe and seen, not to leave home with dreams, only for those dreams to be cut short.
To every university, policymaker and community leader: the time to act is now.
👉 Talk It Zambia stands with every student, every parent and every community calling for urgent action on student welfare. Together, we can protect the future of our nation.
