It’s Dr Mizinga Melu!

Today, I am deeply honoured to have been conferred an Honorary Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Leadership and Management by Copperbelt University.

As cited by the University, this recognition reflects a journey of leadership, strategic vision, and contribution to Zambia’s financial services sector, including the breaking of the glass ceiling in corporate leadership.

From becoming the first female and first Black Managing Director at Standard Chartered Bank Zambia, to leading Absa Bank Zambia and working across multiple African markets, this journey has been about redefining what is possible.

The glass ceiling represents barriers that have historically limited access to leadership. Breaking it means challenging systems, leading on merit, and creating pathways for others to rise.

So yes… today, it is Dr Mizinga Melu.

But beyond the title, I am reminded that leadership is a responsibility.

Leadership is not about position, but about service, integrity, courage, and lifting others.

To the young women: aspire boldly. There is no leadership table at which you do not belong if you are prepared to serve with excellence.

I would also like to acknowledge and congratulate my fellow graduates:
Dr Mukwandi Chibesakunda
Dr Irene Muyenga
Professor Dr Pinalo Chifwanakeni

We rise, and we rise by lifting others.

My sincere appreciation to Copperbelt University for this distinguished recognition.

Lady NorenaToday I read a powerful reflection from that made me pause and look at my life differently:
“What would it look like if the people in your life were suddenly not there… If the things you rely on disappeared… You would probably realize that many of the things you call normal today are actually blessings.”
As someone who lost both my parents at a young age and had to move from place to place while pursuing my education, I know how quickly what we call “normal” can change. Many of the things we take for granted today—family, support, opportunities—are truly blessings.
This message reminded me that gratitude should not wait for loss. We must learn to see the blessings we still have today and thank God for them.
Thank you for this powerful reminder. May we always choose gratitude and let God lead.
Lady Norena

As You Rise…..Be humble but Testify!

Over the years, I used to stay quiet after doing something great or extraordinary, thinking that silence was humility. Thinking people will think I’m too much, thinking it is actually cool to hide your successes!

But I have learned that sharing your journey is not boasting. It is leadership. It is testifying to the goodness of God and showing others what is possible.

Today, I encourage you, when you have done something great, do not hide it. Shout about it. Not for your glory, but to the glory of God, so that others can see what is possible through faith, effort, and grace.

Stay humble, but never dim your testimony.

You At the Top!
