*FUNGAL INFECTION IN WOMEN*
Vaginal fungal infections, caused by Candida species, are more common in women due to several factors:
1. **Anatomy**: The va**na provides a warm, moist environment that is conducive to fungal growth. Additionally, the va**na has a natural balance of bacteria and yeast. When this balance is disrupted, such as due to hormonal changes, it can lead to overgrowth of yeast.
2. **Hormonal changes**: Hormonal fluctuations during menstruation, pregnancy, or menopause can alter the va**nal environment, making it more hospitable to fungal overgrowth.
3. **Antibiotics**: Antibiotics can disrupt the natural balance of microorganisms in the va**na by killing beneficial bacteria, allowing yeast to proliferate.
4. **Diabetes**: Women with poorly controlled diabetes are at higher risk for va**nal fungal infections because yeast thrive in high-sugar environments.
5. **Weakened immune system**: Conditions or medications that weaken the immune system can make women more susceptible to fungal infections.
6. **Sexual activity**: Although not a direct cause, sexual activity can sometimes introduce bacteria or yeast into the va**na, increasing the risk of infection.
