LoCo: Bridging the Gap in SRH & HIV Prevention Amidst Funding Cuts
The reinstatement of the Trump-era executive order for USAID funding has led to severe cuts in Sexual and Reproductive Health (SRH) and HIV prevention services, creating critical gaps in the availability, supply, and reporting of essential commodities. Over 60% of SRH commodities in many African countries are funded by USAID, making these cuts a major setback in the fight against HIV and unintended pregnancies. Innovative, sustainable solutions are needed to ensure continued access to SRH services.
LoCo: A Game-Changer in SRH & HIV Prevention LoCo, a mobile application, is uniquely positioned to bridge these gaps by leveraging technology and last-mile distribution mechanisms. Designed to be self-sustaining through delivery charges and commissions, LoCo ensures continued access to SRH commodities with minimal external support.
How LoCo Fills the Gap
✅ Targeted Distribution: LoCo links deliveries to specific groups, ensuring the neediest—adolescents, young women, and key populations—receive essential SRH commodities discreetly and efficiently. ✅ Sustainable SRH Commodity Access: By promoting socially marketed and commercial condoms alongside free condoms, LoCo enhances demand creation and access. ✅ Last-Mile & Community-Based Distribution: The app integrates mobile booth operators, peer promoters, and community health workers into the supply chain, providing incentives for local distributors and expanding access. ✅ Enhanced Digital Reporting: LoCo's real-time data collection and analytics reduce costs and improve national reporting on SRH and HIV prevention services.
