Monitoring Zambia Reports on the case of a killed pedestrian, as an Emergency officer it is even more painful.

Fellow Citizenry the feeling is bad especially to the family and close friends.

Here is My opinion on the case.
1. RTSA to enhance the restoration of sign post in all roads. Having driven the streets of lusaka I would confirm the safety of pedestrian and drivers is not certain in some areas due to lack of sign post.

2. A filing station ⛽ is a dangerous place due the flammability of the commodity, statistically we have read and seeing filling going ablaze. Can we normalize having first aiders as attendants on these stations. The Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs) and we'll equiped first AID boxes must always be in place at these areas in such cases. Help should have beed rendered to the victim.

Further.
3. The Ministry of Local Government and Ministry of Health should work to normalize primary ambulance 🚑 responses to all primary calls of any nature RTAs inclusive.

A sound EMS system just like Fire and RTSA seemed far fetched in our country but assure you with the availability of human resource, it's actually not far fetched.

In Summary

To the drivers always apply the 10 basic rules as taught during your training

To the stake holders let's do our honest part to safeguard the beloved of this country.

Zambia will be great if we work together.

Condolences the affected.

A pedestrian was killed after he was hit by this vehicle in Lusaka’s Ibex Hill area.

While you are able to do almost everything by yourself, the predators of life linger around us all the time (life is precious)

Did you know a good Samaritan act of rescuing the injured or the suddenly fallen I'll from the jaws of death, could actually be a push to sudden death? (Get trained to safely save a life)

Many people lean to pass an exam, this shouldn't be the case with those regarding the health of a humans especially those dealing with emergencies.

An emergency is something unexpected, you don't prepare for it. Even when surprise can defeat the strongest, with human life it has to be the other way round.

This is my take as a Paramedic, Pre hospital specialist (Emergency Officer)

BACKGROUND
Pre-hospital, primary and Intra Hospital transfers exist but not to meet the need. Intra Hospital transfers are slightly more than the primary operations (where the sick are seen from the scene of the incident).

ON THE CASE
I Salute these nurses that man the Emergency Medical Services dominantly in the pre-hospital setting it's not easy, The death of a patient whose transfer was necessarily for further management, I acknowledge that on the road there is no extra professional help, one gets physically drained, no extra resources should you run out of resources and you are likely not to get back up as that could be the only available resource you are on.
To this I say to the ambulance crew on this call you did what you could it was just a tough situation.

WAY FORWARD
This require a broad approach some of which are long term.

1. Infrastructure and equipping from health posts to be able to handle majority of cases.

2. Improvement of roads

3. Train more Paramedics

4. Employ the already existing Paramedics

5. Create ambulance bases ( equip them)

6. Introduce a tall free EMS line.
Further join RATSA, Fire and the Ambulance service and even ZAF occasionally for cases requiring aeromedical evacuations.

We have the resources as a country to cave these challenges we just need to put them together.

If 3 to 6 points are put as short term measures we could improve;

1. Response to RTAs as paramedics will respond also

2. Intra Hospital transfers will be timely calculated with resources re evaluated and Pre hospital specialist on board.

3. Primary health care would be started from home, school, place of work etc.

4. There will be someone to monitor the EMS vehicle movements, do consumable orders and just bring Sanity to the Service.

Lastly I send my condolences to the family for their Lose and pray for God's presence in this rough time.
