ENDING 2024 IN STYLE!!! 🎉

This year, we came together for an all-staff retreat and an end-of-year party to celebrate the incredible achievements of our team.

Reaching 𝟭𝟴𝟬,𝟬𝟬𝟬 people in just one year is no small feat, and we couldn’t be prouder of this milestone!

2024 was also one of the most challenging years of my social entrepreneurship journey, filled with growing pains and navigating organization-wide changes. As I reflect, one thing is clear: “The highs were very high, and the lows were very low.”

A heartfelt thank you to our amazing board, staff at CRZ but most importantly to my cofounder and sister Faith Kaoma Kabeleka for making every day as CEO worthwhile. You all inspire me every single day. 💪🏽

Now it’s time to rest, recharge, and get ready for an even bigger and more impactful 2025!

Wishing you and your loved ones a joyful holiday season and a Happy New Year! 🎄✨

CAMPUS CORPS FELLOWS GRADUATION 🚀

This year we embarked on a program for university students and we called it the CAMPUS CORPS FELLOWSHIP. This program bridges the gap between university learning and real world experience, coupled with personal development. Students from different programs are immersed in project management, leadership development and taught simple yet essential soft skills necessary for success in their first job.

I am proud to say we graduated the first cohort of 20 students and have secured funding to train 4 more cohorts next year. We also have some companies interested in hiring the fellows who graduate from this program.

A huge thank you to the Vice Chancellors of The Copperbelt University and Mukuba Universities who came through and our Kitwe District Commissioner, Mr Lawrence Mwanza - Kitwe District Development Forum for gracing the event. Thank you to the board and staff at Copper Rose Zambia for bringing this to life. I cannot wait to see what we will achieve next year.

Students, look out for applications in 2025, we are only just beginning!

**DON’T JUMP ON EVERY OPPORTUNITY**

When I was in my 6th year of medical school in 2016, I had this relentless desire to do more with my time. It was a slow year, and if you're familiar with the UNZA system, you know it could sometimes be slower than expected. Eventually, I applied for a full-time job at an NGO and guess what? I got it! The interviewer, who was also a doctor, suggested I take a gap year to gain work experience because the role was full-time with a fieldwork component. He insisted it would be advantageous and give me a headstart for my future.

While it sounded exciting on paper, it wasn’t the right decision. As a government-sponsored student, there was no guarantee that I could return after a gap year, so I politely declined. Looking back, that job seemed like an opportunity that could solve my immediate financial needs, but it would have derailed my path. Instead, I spent that year working on Copper Rose Zambia , doing community work, volunteering with international organisations, and building a network. I can proudly say it paid off.

Today, I see many ambitious young people with endless energy—sometimes to the point of feeling like they might explode! I've also seen young people constantly changing sectors, from health to agriculture to finance, simply because they’re not willing to wait for that promotion or growth opportunity. While job changes can boost your net worth, shifting directions too often can prevent you from building real expertise and achieving the "big" things you aspire to.

Just because an opportunity comes your way doesn’t mean you have to take it. Think about how it will benefit you long term, and focus your energy on what truly matters. Trust the journey, take the long view, and prioritize growth over speed.

Have you ever faced a tough decision between taking an exciting new opportunity or staying the course? How did you decide, and what was the outcome?

My highlight of the week has been some insightful partnership meetings, including this one with the team at Right to Care Zambia . Looking forward to exploring new opportunities for collaboration that will strengthen our efforts in delivering quality health services to those who need it most, especially adolescents and youth who are at the center of our work at Copper Rose.

While some people say, 'Fake it till you make it,' I believe it's more about 'Acting with confidence while you build the experience.' Confidence without substance can only take you so far – it’s the skills and knowledge you develop that truly sustain your success.

Happy Friday 🥳

TWO IS BETTER THAN ONE!
One of the biggest challenges startup founders face is finding the right partner. I am so glad I found mine, Faith Kaoma Kabeleka. Together, we’ve been able to tackle obstacles, share ideas, and drive our vision forward. To all the social entrepreneurs out there, never underestimate the power of a great partnership.

I remember last year watching the YPC2022 in pictures and adding it to my goals for 2023.
Not only was i selected as one of the 250 from 3200+ applications but was also a speaker for two sessions!
1. Moderated a panel with the first lady Namibia Her Excellency Monica Geingos ✅
2. Was on a panel for adolescent health in Africa where i brought the Zambian perspective to adolescent health and wellbeing. ✅
A huge thank you to the organizers Africa CDC and Dr Chrys Promesse KANIKI (MD, PhDc) for entrusting me with the amazing responsibility. “ The best way to predict the future is to desire it, then create it” - NSK

***TIME IS YOUR FRIEND***
Social media has convinced many young professionals into thinking that they should have become CEO or Manager or Director by now. While there are many young achievers under 35, the truth is that those people are outliers and less than 10%.

From my recent research, I have come to appreciate that most of the successful people we see and admire; Entrepreneurs, Politicians, CEO’s, Ministers, Directors, etc have been at it for over 15 years. When i say "Time is your friend" i mean that we should look at how long it takes to get somewhere with positive feelings. No one is sabotagging you and your dreams, some things just take time.
Lionel Messi himself said “When it comes to being badass nothing beats this-It took me 17 years and 114 days to become an overnight success.”

Dear young professional: Hang in there, perfect your work, become an expert in your field, make time your friend and enjoy the journey with gratitude and poise. The good things shall surely follow.
Have a great week!
