High blood pressure, also called hypertension, is blood pressure that is higher than normal. Your blood pressure changes throughout the day based on your activities. Having blood pressure measures consistently above normal may result in a diagnosis of high blood pressure (or hypertension).
People with very high blood pressure (usually 180/120 or higher) can experience symptoms including:
✓Severe headaches.
✓Chest pain.
✓Dizziness.
✓Difficulty breathing.
✓Nausea.
✓Vomiting.
✓Blurred vision or other vision changes.
✓Anxiety.
High blood pressure usually develops over time. It can happen because of unhealthy lifestyle choices, such as not getting enough regular physical activity. Certain health conditions, such as diabetes and having obesity, can also increase the risk for developing high blood pressure.
Hypertension is the term used to describe high blood pressure. Untreated high blood pressure can lead to many medical problems. These include heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, eye problems, and other health issues. Blood pressure readings are given as two numbers.
Unfortunately, high blood pressure can happen without feeling any abnormal symptoms. Moderate or severe headaches, anxiety, shortness of breath, nosebleeds, palpitations, or feeling of pulsations in the neck are some signs of high blood pressure.
