Pre-exposure prophylaxis or prep is a daily course of anti retroviral drugs(ARVs) taken by HIV negative people to protect themselves from HIV infection.
Studies /trials of oral PrEP have shown that, when taken consistently and correctly,PrEP is highly effective and reduces the chances of HIV infection. When someone has been exposed to HIV e.g through sex,the medicine can work to keep the virus from establishing a permanent infection. The effectiveness of PrEP is intricately linked to adherence.
Who should take PrEP
