SOLAMUM MACROCARPON
Commonly known as the African Eggplant. Its scientific name is Solanum Macrocarpon. In Zambia most people call it Impwa, we are not sure what tribe that is. What is it called in your language?
This fruit originated from West African and now it is found growing naturally in most parts of Sub-Saharan African. It has been used in most communities as food and traditional medicine.
The fruit is used as a laxative in some parts of Nigeria. The roots are boiled and the liquid consumed to treat abdominal hookworms in some parts of Kenya. Other uses include the use of its crushed seeds to treat toothache, its roots are used to speed up wound healing. There could be more uses in traditional medicine. What traditional medicinal properties do you know?
Consumption of this vegetable is associated with reduced risk of heart diseases, weight loss, fighting prostate cancer, and promotes blood sugar control.

KISS OF DEATH
Herpes Simplex Virus type 1 (HSV-1) in babies is rare but if a baby is kissed by a person who has a cold sore or blisters around the mouth, the baby can become seriously sick with the virus because the immune system of the baby is not fully developed. HSV-1 is a sexually transmitted disease (STD).
Can a baby die from being kissed by someone who has herpes?
A baby is most at risk of getting infected with herpes during the first 4 weeks of life. If the baby gets infected it can get serious enough to cause death.
