"Storage conditions"

👉Your storage is part of your farm.. if it's weak, your profit is weak too👀

👉Clean storage before putting new harvest cuz old pests are just waiting for free food.
Remember, farming is not just planting, even storing is part of your production 💯

You did everything right then you rushed harvesting 🤦💔that's how farmer's lose money.
Harvest too early= high moisture
Harvest too late=losses in the field

Timing in farming is everything.
Maize focus 📷
What are the physiological maturity signs of maize?
1. Dry cobs, kernels should be hard and dry
2. Cob position, cobs usually bend downward on the stalk
3.The outer husks turn brown and brittle /papery.
Lets farm harvest smart this season.

BORON = MORE FRUITS, LESS FLOWER LOSS!
As someone new stepping into agriculture, one thing I’ve quickly learned is this: small nutrients can surely make a big difference!! and boron? is hell one of them especially in fruit vegetables like tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers.
Now most people ask when is the right time to apply it?

Spray boron just before flowering and during early flowering. That’s the critical stage where your crop decides whether it will give you fruits… or just drop flowers.
What are the benefits of boron?
1. Improves pollen viability
2. Support fruit development hence reduction in flower abortion
3. It also helps transport sugars within the plant which gives it energy.
So where does boron come in?
Think of boron as a flower supporter. It helps:
Flowers stay on the plant.
Pollen work properly.
Fruits actually form, even under stress
How to apply Boron especially in these cold seasons we are approaching
Spray early morning or late afternoon
Use the right dosage (don’t overdo it)
Apply every 10–14 days during flowering
Make sure you cover the plant well.
Osho Chemicals Zambia supply with the best (Easy gro fruit and flower) which consists of the Game changer BORON.

Farmers need to know that You can have the best seed, good fertilizer, and still lose yield… just because of micronutrient neglect.
👉 “Healthy flowers = healthy harvests.”
👉 And sometimes, all it takes is a little boron at the right time.
Let’s farm smarter, not harder.

Many people usually ask, how many bags can I get in 1 ha of maize?
This question is complex and to answer properly you need to consider a lot of things of which some are...

1. Nutrient supplying ability of the soil. Did you apply manure, lime or D compound at planting? Note: manure is good because it releases the nutrients slowly which ll push your yield a bit higher and also improves infiltration rate of water.

2. Variety, what's the potential yield tonnage of the variety? Note: potential yield tonnage goes hand in hand with the amount of fertilizer you put in, for every tonnage of yield you need about 23 kg of urea which is 1 bag× 50 kg which is 46% nitrogen .

3.Time of planting, it's very important to plant early because the crops utilize more sunshine and rainfall which is important for grain filling.

4. Crop management, how are you protecting your crop from pest and w**d pressure?

5. Harvesting practices, you can do the things I have mentioned above properly but if your harvesting practices ain't right then trust me your yield will still be low.

How ever, on average as the general fertilization of 4 bags ureas, 4 bags D you expect about 80-100 50 kg bags with all things being equal.

The major enemies of crops are WEEDS and PESTS, if these two are not managed properly your yields can drastically reduce about 50% .
Let's control w**ds on time to minimize competition of nutrients, sunlight and space. If you can't manually control the w**ds ensure that you use appropriate chemicals with proper mode of actions, time of application and those which are least damaging to soils, humans , animals and environment.

On the other hand, controlling pests needs a proper identification of pests which can only be achieved through monitoring and scouting. After scouting you can then come up with a good Integrated pest management plan( IPM) to supress, prevent or eradicate these enemies.

UNDERSTANDING SOIL AMENDMENT AGENTS IN AGRICULTURE AND THEIR EFFECT ON SOIL PH.
Calcitic lime , Dolomitic lime , Gypsum and Elemental sulfur

1.CALCITIC LIME (calcium carbonate) used to raise the soil pH, applied when the soil is acidic.

2. DOLOMITIC LIME(calcium carbonate and magnesium carbonate in the ratio of 2:1)also used to raise the soil pH but this one is better because not only ll it add calcium in the soil but also magnesium which plays a vital role in plants's health more especially in fruits and vegetables.

3. GYPSUM, this one adds calcium to the soil without having any effect on the soils pH, it is used to improve soil structure, more especially in clayey soil, improves water retention and microbial activities. For most crops that require much calcium like groundnuts it's advisable to add gypsum for kernel development.

4. Elemental sulfur - Used to acidify the soil or dropping the pH of the soil, when applied microorganisms convert sulfur into sulfuric acid which then lowers soil pH

NOTE: most nutrients become readily available in the soil pH of slight acidity to slight neutral 5.5-6.5

As farmers let's normalize carrying out soil testing, it ll help us make well informed decision on fertilization, soil amendments and to know overall soil health.
