Samfya CS urges staff to get vaccinated.

Samfya district Council Secretary Mr Francis Nkhoma has encouraged Samfya Town Council employees to get vaccinated for Covid 19.

Speaking during a staff sensitisation meeting held today in the council chamber, Mr. Nkhoma urged employees of the local authority to take advantage of the availability of the vaccines in the district to help reduce the spread of the disease in the district.

He added that the local authority is charged with the responsibility of enforcing Covid 19 preventive measures hence the need for members of staff to take the lead in the ongoing vaccination exercise.

Samfya Town Council swings into action- Shuts down 9 bars.

Samfya Town Council has closed 7 bars and 2 night clubs for breaching the Covid 19 regulations in accordance with the Public Health Act No. 22 of 1995 and Statutory Instrument No. 21, 22 and 62 of the laws of Zambia.

In the past week, the local authority closed 9 premises out of the 30 inspected and their licenses have been seized pending revocation.

The 9 were found operating beyond the permitted time and non compliance of the 5 golden rules by the patronage.

The District Commissioner and the Council Secretary led a combined team officers from the Local Authority, Department of Health and the State Police in night inspections to check on compliance levels of the latest measures announced by the government.

The enforcement agencies in the district will continue with stringent checks on public premises and will take action against anyone breaching the Covid 19 preventive measures.

Samfya Council redoubles Covid prevetion measures.

Samfya district Council Secretary Mr Francis Nkhoma says the local authority through the heath department will strengthern the enforcement of the Covid 19 regulations in accordance with the Public Health Act No. 22 of 1995 of the laws of Zambia and the SI numbers 21, 22 and 62.

Speaking during the general cleaning and disinfection of offices at the Civic Center yesterday, Mr Nkhoma called on all public health and law enforcement officers in the district to closely monitor the compliance levels of the Covid 19 prevention guidelines in view of the spike in the national statistics.

He further urged all heads of government departments, schools and business entities to maintain high standards of hygiene by conducting thorough cleaning and disinfecting of their surroundings.
"I am calling on all heads of public offices and the corporate world to emulate the Council which constantly fumigates and disinfects the Civic Center," he said.

He stated that the local authority will ensure that the routine disinfection exercise is rolled out to markets and bus stations

The Council Secretary, who is also the District Electoral Officer, has advised the political parties to conduct campaigns as guided by the Electoral Commission of Zambia with reference to the pandemic as a way of safeguarding lives of electorates.

*Samfya Council to expand income portifolio through agriculture*

Samfya Town Council has commited over K60 000 on an agricultural project of developing 500 hectares of the local authority's farm in order to supplement the institution's income sources.

The local authority is engaged in the production of beans and cassava on the council farm located in Chesemba settlement on the Tuta road. So far eight hectares of land has been utilised.

Council secretary Mr Francis Nkhoma accompanied by his management team toured the farm last Friday to check on the progress. Expressing happiness, Mr Nkhoma, nonetheless noted that the only limiting factor to increased productivity were resources.
"While it is management's desire and determination to expand the hectarege in terms of productivity, unfortunately resources are limited on our part," he explained.

However, the Council Secretary pledged that the local authority would allocate more funds to the project in the coming farming seasons in order to increase productivity and consequently contribute to the national food basket.
