*Word for You Today: What is your life founded upon?*

*Today's Scripture: _‘Why do you call me, “Lord, Lord,” and do not do what I say?’_ Luke 6:46*

Jesus told a story of two men who built a house. The wise one built his house on solid rock; the foolish one built his on sand. Same plan, same location. When these two men were doing their foundation, the one men dug deeper right up until he hit the hard rock, the other dug but never got deeper.

When a storm hit both houses, only the wise man’s was left standing. Now, Jesus wasn’t comparing wisdom with foolishness, because we’re all apt to be wise at times and foolish at others. And He didn’t say the house that survived was a believer’s house while the one that was destroyed belonged to an unbeliever, remember they both built their houses (meaning during cool weather they both had shelter). He was comparing the two foundations (Matthew 7:24-27).

So, what is your life founded upon? *How deep is your foundation in the things of God? When things get bad; when your back is against the wall; when your survival is on the line; when you’ve used up your last ounce of strength – what is it that gets you through? Certainly not your wisdom or your church affiliation.*

*_Faithful believers sometimes flounder in the midst of life’s storms: an abusive relationship, a financial collapse, an unfaithful partner, an irreversible loss, the illness of a child, psychological and physical disability, terminal illness. Jesus’ point was this: when the storms of life come, the only way to get through them is to do what He says! Because God always honours His Word, your obedience aligns you with His Word, His will, and His power to act on your behalf. As you walk in obedience God will enable you to come through this storm, no matter how long and hard it rages_*

*The believer is not a powerless spectator in the affairs of life but a carrier of divine authority. When Jesus rose from the grave, He declared, “All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth” (Matthew 28:18), and then delegated that same authority to His Church. Kingdom authority is not a religious concept—it is a spiritual reality meant to be manifested daily.*
To manifest God’s Kingdom authority means to enforce heaven’s will on earth. *It is the believer’s right to command darkness to flee, to silence demonic oppression, to heal the sick, and to declare divine order wherever chaos reigns.* The enemy fears the believer who understands and operates in this authority.

*WHAT YOU TAKE FOR GRANTED IS NOT YOUR RIGHT*

It is only those with an empty stomach who truly know the value of food. Only those who have never married understand the importance of a husband. Only an orphan fully knows the pain of not having parents.

There are so many things in life that we take for granted. It feels as if it’s our right to have them.

If you knew the cost of a single soul in the hospital, surely you would not take for granted the free gift of life that God has given in abundance. The one in a wheelchair is the only one who truly knows the value of legs. They wish they could walk—even to receive a scolding from their mother—but your own legs you use to run around spreading gossip, committing adultery, murder, and doing meaningless things.

Ask us who never once received even a pair of socks from our father, and we will tell you the deep pain of lacking. Ask us who slept hungry because of poverty, and we will tell you the goodness of the Lord. Ask those who never saw the face of their mother or father, and they will explain the depth of that pain.

It seems easy, even normal, when it’s not your situation. But let me tell you, my brothers and sisters—it is GRACE to have parents, GRACE to have health, GRACE to be alive. It is not a national right to have family, children, a wife, or a husband. These are God’s mercies, not your ability or strength.

Ask the one without a child and they will tell you that children are not a choice but God’s grace and favor. Yet others abort pregnancies, throw away children, or neglect them. Ask the one with cancer, high blood pressure, or HIV, and they will tell you what health really means. Then you will know that health is not found in having a specialist doctor but in the grace of the Ancient of Days.

In our human thinking, we only realize the value of something once it’s gone. You despise your parents while you live comfortably in Johannesburg for ten years, eating lavishly, while they survive on wild fruits and dried vegetables, looking as if life has squeezed them dry. You abuse your husband as if the whole world belongs to you and marriages never end. You abandon your children and they grow up like weeds while you chase after your own pleasures. You beat your wife as if women will one day run out—yet others are even waiting to marry!

Oh! And what about salvation, which we boast in as if we have the keys to heaven? When the trumpet sounds, then you will see that free gifts are costly. Shine on proudly as you gain fame for insulting others on social media, creating ghost accounts just to spread hate as if you own time itself. But one day, you will reap what you sow. A time will come—God is neither your friend nor your drinking buddy. Time is not ours… one day you will surely harvest.

Know the time, my brothers and sisters… know the time, for time is not ours. Why don’t you repent, my brother, my sister?

When Abraham tried to hurry the plan of God and fulfil it through well-intentioned but misguided human effort, Ishmael was born. Perhaps you have tried something similar yourself. _We all have our ‘Ishmaels’ – a good idea that wasn’t a God idea._ And it can complicate your life. So God told Abraham, ‘Cast out this bondwoman and her son.’ In other words: ‘It’s time to deal with your past and clean out your cupboard. This thing is holding you back, and until you deal with it you can’t move forward to your destiny. Get it out of your life and don’t look back!’ Sometimes your miracle (Isaac) and your mistake (Ishmael) can live together for a while under the same roof. Things can be so good in one area of your life, yet so bad in another. But there comes a time when God says, ‘Because of the plans I have for you, you must put this thing out of your life.’ And that’s not easy. It’s painful letting go of what your flesh craves or cherishes. But you have only two options: be led by your emotions and miss out on God’s best, or say, ‘As much as I love this person or thing, I love the Lord more.’

*_When you’re willing to walk away from something you thought you had to have because you love God more, that’s called ‘the sacrifice of praise’ (Hebrews 13:15). And when you offer it up to God, you position yourself to experience a new level of His blessing. Is God speaking to you today about something similar in your life? If so, let it go!_*

*Word for Today: Where is God in the storm?*

*Today's Scripture: _'When neither sun nor stars appeared for many days and the storm continued raging, we finally gave up all hope of being saved._ ’Acts 27:20.*

*_There are times when God seems inaccessible. When you pray, you feel abandoned in your present circumstances. And not just abandoned, but terrified and even hopeless._* _Paul understood that feeling._ He’d longed for an opportunity to preach in Rome, and was on his way there when a hurricane destroyed his ship. Paul not only foresaw the loss of the ship, its crew and cargo, but ‘our own lives also’ (v. 10). He tried to warn the crew of the impending tragedy, but his words were disregarded by those in charge. In short, Paul and 276 others were placed in a life-threatening position by the wilful disregard of others, and there was nothing he could do about it. Feeling a sense of despair, he and his believing companions declared, _‘We finally gave up all hope of being saved!’_
Then after fourteen days lost at sea – when the hurricane was fiercest – God sent an angel. _‘Do not be afraid, Paul…God has graciously given you the lives of all who sail with you’ (v. 24)._ When it looked like Paul’s consuming desire to preach in Rome would be thwarted, God faithfully piloted them through the storm to the exact destination He’d planned for them. Paul would go to Rome and declare God’s Word before Caesar!

*_Are you caught in a storm? Whatever trial you’re facing today, know this one thing: you can trust God to carry you through it. He determines ‘the end from the beginning’ (Isaiah 46:10), so you will come out of this stronger and wiser._*

Paul asked the great question: _‘Can anything ever separate us from Christ’s love?’_ When you don’t know why God loves you in the first place, it’s easy to doubt His love at times. You want to know how He feels about you when you act like a jerk, feel like a loser, when you throw tantrums at anything that moves, when your thoughts are gutter-level and you feel helpless, and when your tongue is sharp enough to slice a rock. You ask, ‘How does He feel about me then?’ And what about when bad things happen – does God care then? Does He love you in the midst of fear? Is He with you when danger lurks? In other words, ‘Will He ever stop loving me?’ That’s the great question, isn’t it? Perhaps you crossed the line this week. Or your communication with your spouse is draining instead of blessing, you are broke to the point that you are not sure where the next meal will come from, where the scripture that says "children are a blessing" when you look at your children you feel like they are a curse. Or your business took you where you’d no business being. Or you cursed God for making you stand at the grave of a loved one you weren’t ready to give up. Did you drift too far? Did you wait too long?
