This week, TriplePundit shared a powerful story about what telehealth really means for women in rural Zimbabwe.

It’s the story of Elizabeth, Jessica, and thousands of others who used to walk long distances, wait days for a doctor, or simply go without care. Today, they can walk into a ZimSmart Villages telehealth center and get screened, treated, educated, and seen.

Our Hauna center alone has screened nearly 5,000 people, mostly women, many of whom were never tested before.

This year’s World Diabetes Day theme, “Diabetes and Wellbeing,” rightly highlights the importance of providing appropriate care and support within the workplace.
As ZimSmart Villages, we recognise the critical role employers play in ensuring access to screening, education, and medication for their teams.

But our work in communities also reveals another reality, one that is often overlooked.

Many of the individuals living with diabetes whom we meet during our outreaches are not formally employed.
They have no workplace wellness programmes, no medical benefits, and no structured support.
For them, access to medication is not about wellbeing; it is about affordability and survival.

Their voices remind us why last-mile health access matters.

As we commemorate World Diabetes Day, ZimSmart Villages remains committed to building community-centered systems that ensure no one is left out, employed or not.
Wellbeing must reach every household, every village, every person.
