Finding a breast lump can be frightening, especially if you are a teen or a young woman. The truth is that many of these lumps are benign. One common example is a fibroadenoma, a firm, smooth lump that moves easily under the skin and is non-cancerous.
Your doctor may examine you, arrange an ultrasound, and sometimes suggest a small needle biopsy to be sure of the diagnosis. Most fibroadenomas can simply be monitored, as they often stay the same size or even shrink over time.
If a lump grows, becomes painful, or changes in any way, it is important to be checked again. Clarity usually feels better than weeks of silent worry. If you are unsure about a lump or a test you have been offered, you are welcome to ask your questions below.
