Free Palestine-- Not only is it against international law and any morality for Israel to unleash thousands of missiles strikes on a densely populated area like Gaza - where 50%of the population are children - that you cut off from food, water and electricity. Not only is it a war crime. It is also a horrific and terrorizing way to kill innocent human beings, even if your political leaders dehumanize these humans as "animals" as he announces plans for genocide.

Your body is your teacher, and symptoms are messengers, not enemies.⁣

Your body does not make mistakes. Symptoms are adaptive, compensatory responses and oftentimes healing reactions to the inputs, stimuli and exposures your body encounters.⁣

A fever, when it does not run unchecked, is an elevation in core body temperature that appears in attempts to render your body inhospitable to an invading pathogen.⁣

Inflammation in response to a splinter in your finger sequesters or walls off the "intruder" to expel it from the body.⁣

Redness or swelling with injury is a sign of increased blood flow to deliver nutrients needed for healing and to recruit immune cells to the area in need of attention.⁣

Coughing and sneezing are more aggressive reflexes to forcibly expel pathogens, trapped in mucus, from your body.⁣

The lethargy, depression and need to isolate you feel when you ill is known as "cytokine induced sickness behavior"--a response to increased inflammatory messengers--to get you to slow down and rest (so you can actually heal) and withdraw from people (preventing spread of contagion).⁣

Your body is imbued with innate and inherent wisdom.⁣

When we suppress our intelligently designed symptoms, it is oftentimes to our detriment.⁣

And the name of the game in Western medicine is symptom suppression.⁣

Rather than practicing surface level medicine, it would be wise of us to go *upstream* to the root of why those symptoms are there in the first place.⁣

Address the root cause, heal the body.

Among the nutrients that are not well absorbed by individuals with celiac disease are calcium, vitamin D, and vitamin K, which are essential for healthy bones. Therefore, among the possible complications of untreated celiac disease is the inability to develop optimal bone mass in children and the loss of bone in adults, both of which increase the risk of osteoporosis.
The only treatment for celiac disease is to follow a gluten-free diet.
In a study on Bone Mineral Density in Adult Celiac Disease they researched analysis of over 15 years to understand the relationship between bone disease and celiac. ⠀

In this analysis, they found up to 40% of celiac patients diagnosed in adulthood, and 75% of celiacs in general, had low bone mass density (weaker bones). ⠀

This is why it is essential for patients with celiac disease to get a bone density screen at diagnosis. ⠀

To see how celiac has impacted your bones and to assess for any additional interventions needed to help support those impacts. ⠀

It's also essential that people with celiac stay gluten-free to heal and prevent further damage ⠀

When it comes to cooking with oils, it’s important to consider:

1️⃣ The level of processing
2️⃣ Smoke point
3️⃣ Omega 6:3 ratio

In general, saturated fats (coconut/ghee), are better to cook with since they are more stable and less likely to oxidize when heated. This is due to their chemical structure which is solid at room temp.

Unsaturated fats on the other hand are broken up into 2 subgroups:

1️⃣ Monounsaturated (MUFAS)
2️⃣ Polyunsaturated (PUFAS)

MUFAS (avocado, olives, macadamia) are more stable than PUFAS which are more prone to oxidation. PUFAS are found in various seeds, nuts, and oily fish such as salmon.

Vegetable oils are rich in PUFAs and are more prone to lipidperoxidation (ie. generation of free radicals 👉🏼 inflammation = tissue damage), especially when heated.

These “oxidized oils” can also impair insulin sensitivity 🙅🏻‍♂️

The temperature an oil starts to burn and become oxidized is known as the “smoke point.”

When choosing a fat to cook with, opt for a HIGHER smoke point or simply cook at LOWER TEMPERATURES.

Avocado oil (mainly MUFAs) is great to cook with because of its high smoke point. Ghee (clarified butter) is arguably the best saturated fat (smoke point = 485 F) where grass-fed butter = 350 F.

I generally like to save cold-pressed olive and sesame oil for salads and dressings. However, one study showed that frying with unrefined olive oil did not generate the same amount of free radicals and peroxide when fried 🤔 (likely due to the antioxidant oleocanthol).

Coconut oil can be a great fat to cook with at medium heats, not high.

The last thing to consider is the level of processing. Look for cold-pressed, virgin, & extra virgin. Unprocessed virgin oils are prepared by physical/mechanical processes within thermal limits & without solvents.

You’ll notice that a more processed refined coconut oil has a different smoke point compared to virgin coconut.

General rule of thumb: Mother nature doesn’t make bad fats. Humans do.

In hot summer days like these we all crave a good sweet colddd watermelon; but have you thought of its benefits?
Here's a few to encourage you to keep those watermelons coming 🍉😋
As their name suggests, watermelons have a high water content, which helps keep you hydrated. They’re also high in vitamins A and C, potassium, and carotenoids. In particular, watermelons are high in the antioxidant-rich carotenoid lycopene, which gives the flesh its pinkish-red color. (As a result, red watermelons are naturally higher in lycopene than yellow or pink ones.)
Watermelons are also high in natural sugars (about 9.4 grams of sugar per cup), so they’re high on the glycemic index. But because they’re so high in water, they still turn out to be low on the glycemic load scale. This means that despite their sweetness, they likely won’t spike your blood sugar when you eat them
