How Does Stress Cause Illness According to Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM)?
In Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), stress disrupts the flow of Qi (vital energy) and blood, leading to various health issues.
1. Effects on the Liver (Gan 肝)
According to TCM, the Liver controls the smooth flow of Qi. Stress blocks Liver Qi, leading to headaches, irritability, digestive problems, and chest tightness.
Stagnant Liver Qi can cause anger and emotional instability.
2. Effects on the Heart (Xin 心)
Stress weakens the Heart Qi and Blood, leading to anxiety, insomnia, palpitations, and mental stress.
In TCM, the Heart governs emotions, so prolonged stress can cause depression and emotional disorders.

Stress weakens Lung Qi, leading to breathing problems, asthma, and skin disorders like eczema and allergies.
