                                            Prana & Apana Vayu in Hatha Yoga
1. What are the Vayus?
In yogic philosophy, Prana (life force) moves in the body through five major currents called the Pancha Vayus (five winds). These are energetic directions that govern different functions of the body and mind.

2. Prana Vayu – The Upward / Inward Energy
 • Location: Primarily in the chest, lungs, and heart.
 • Direction: Moves upward and inward.
 • Function: Governs inhalation, intake of energy, vitality, enthusiasm, and expansion of consciousness.
 • Symbolism in Hatha: The energy that lifts us, awakens us, and connects us to higher states.

3. Apana Vayu – The Downward / Outward Energy
 • Location: Lower abdomen, pelvic floor, elimination organs.
 • Direction: Moves downward and outward.
 • Function: Governs exhalation, elimination, grounding, stability, reproduction, and release of toxins.
