Lumbar lordosis.(Swayback posture).
Swayback posture(lumber lordosis) is often caused by tight hamstrings and back muscles, weak abdominal muscles, and laxity in certain ligaments in the back and pelvis. Sitting for long periods of time may cause these muscles to tighten. Over time, if not properly stretched, they can become stiff and weak.
Lordosis is the inward curve of the lumbar spine (just above the buttocks). A small degree of lordosis is normal. Too much curving is called swayback. The spine is divided into several sections. The cervical vertebrae make up the neck.
Symptoms of Lumbar Lordosis
A large C-shape in the lower back, causing the buttocks to protrude outward.
A noticeable gap between the lower back and the floor when lying flat.
Muscle pain and discomfort in the lower back.
Difficulty moving in certain ways.
Muscle spasms.
Temporary loss of bladder control.
Causes.
Achondroplasia, spondylolisthesis, osteoporosis, obesity (read more below), kyphosis, discitis, congenital conditions, arthritis, and lower crossed syndrome.
Poor posture.
Obesity.
Osteoporosis (a bone disease common among older adults)
Osteosarcoma (bone cancer that develops near the knee or in the upper arm)
Spondylolisthesis (a spinal condition where the vertebrae in the lower back slip forward)
What’s The Difference Between Lordosis, Kyphosis, & Scoliosis?
There are three common spinal curvature disorders that get mixed up with each other: scoliosis, lordosis, and kyphosis. These disorders all have abnormal curves of the spine and the normal curves are much greater than they are supposed to be.
