⭐️Understanding ADHD and the Path to Student Success:

Dr. Kylie Menolee delivered an engaging workshop at Heriot-Watt University, empowering students and professors to better understand ADHD.

She unpacked what ADHD really is, its different types, and how it influences motivation, focus, and everyday functioning in university life. Through hands-on activities and games on impulse control, working memory, and executive functioning, participants explored how ADHD impacts the brain’s ability to plan, organize, and stay on track.

Dr. Kylie also shed light on the diagnostic process — explaining how ADHD assessments are conducted, what professionals look for, and how students can seek evaluation and support if they suspect ADHD.

The session concluded with practical, evidence-based strategies to strengthen attention, manage distractions, and enhance academic success.

Overall an amazing and insightful workshop!

💬 Let’s break the stigma around couples therapy.
It’s not only for “relationships in crisis” - it’s for couples who want to communicate better, reconnect emotionally, and grow stronger together.

Research shows that couples therapy can:
✨ Improve communication and emotional intimacy
✨ Reduce conflict and strengthen trust
✨ Increase relationship satisfaction and overall well-being

Healthy relationships don’t just happen - they’re built with intention, understanding, and the right support.

We’re glad to share that two of our psychologists- Dr Nikita Bhatnagar and Mary Coyne at Connect Psychology offer couples therapy: helping partners heal, reconnect, and thrive together.

🧠 World Mental Health Day 2025 🌍
“Protecting your mental health in times of global instability” — reminds us that uncertainty can take a quiet toll on our minds.
💬 Take a moment to check in with yourself:
• Have you been feeling more on edge lately?
• Are you doom-scrolling more than usual?
• When was the last time you truly rested — without guilt?

If anxiety feels heavier lately, try these small but effective ways to care for your mind:

✨ Set boundaries with the news — take breaks from constant updates.
✨ Ground yourself in the present — use deep breathing or mindfulness.
✨ Stay connected — talk with friends, family, or a therapist.
✨ Give yourself permission to rest — rest isn’t laziness, it’s recovery.
✨ Focus on what you can control — small, meaningful actions can ease helplessness.

At Connect Psychology, our therapists are here to help you find balance and build resilience — one step at a time.
How do you protect your mental health during uncertain times? Let’s start the conversation 👇

Many teens deal with anxious thoughts or feel the need to do things a certain way. But when these worries begin to take over, making it hard to sleep, study, or enjoy life - it might be more than just stress.

This summer, join a safe, supportive group where teens can share, learn, and heal together.

This group is designed for teens experiencing:

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD)
Social anxiety and fear of judgment
Panic attacks or constant worry
Body dysmorphia or self-image struggles
Agoraphobia or fear of certain spaces
Trichotillomania (hair-pulling behaviors)

Teens can connect with peers who understand what they’re going through and gain tools to manage anxiety, reduce compulsive behaviors, and feel more in control.

The group is led by Mary Coyne, an experienced psychotherapist who specialises in adolescent anxiety.

Great book for parents to read with their child following a dyslexia diagnosis. Clear explanations with positive language and an emphasis on self-advocacy.

‘Learning how to advocate for yourself is something everyone needs to do. You’re just learning how to do it way earlier, and this will serve you for the rest of your life. And guess what, you’re not alone!’

A welcome addition to our growing book collection! 🧡

Do you ever feel like some days your battery is full of energy, and other days it’s running on empty?

Good mental health starts with knowing how to re-charge!

The Mood Battery tool from Young Minds, developed for teens and neurodivergent thinkers, helps you track your emotional energy, discover what recharges you, and communicate how you feel.

Over time, you will be able to:

- Understand your patterns.
- Plan for better self-care.
- Share your insights with others.

Give it a try and let us know how you get on.

We get it! It’s easier to feel calm and in control in your everyday routine, but nothing tests your growth, and patience, like navigating old dynamics with those who know you best (and have known you longest).

Many of us continue to struggle with family dynamics long after leaving home. It can be really beneficial to explore these feelings with the support of a therapist. Some areas they might look at with you are:

- boundaries
- your values
- early experiences
- attachment style

Do you ever catch yourself saying things to yourself that you’d never say to a friend?

That’s your inner critic speaking. It can be harsh, unkind, and full of thinking errors like:
I always mess things up
I’ll never be good enough
Everyone is judging me

Therapy can help you turn down the volume on that inner critic and replace those thoughts with ones that are balanced and kinder.

By becoming aware of your self-talk and addressing thinking errors, you can:
✔️ Build confidence
✔️ Reduce anxiety
✔️ Embrace self-compassion
