Do you love coffee, but not what it does to your bowels?

That reaction is not always a cause for concern, but when it becomes urgent, uncomfortable, or predictable every single time, it can sometimes reflect a more sensitive bowel rather than the drink itself. If this happens often, it may be worth understanding what your gut is really responding to.

Most gut problems do not start with one big symptom. They start with small changes that get normalised — until they cannot be ignored anymore.

Antibiotics, stress, diet, and years of dismissing early signs can quietly reshape how your gut functions.

If something has felt off for a while, the most important question is not what the symptom is — it is what has been driving it.

In my practice, I often see patients who have been living with ongoing gut symptoms far longer than they should.
IBS can be difficult to recognise without the right assessment, especially when routine tests appear normal. This IBS Awareness Month, my message is simple: if your symptoms keep returning, do not ignore them.

One of the biggest problems in gut health today is that complex terms are often reduced to simple trends.
In reality, the right approach depends far less on what is popular and far more on what is clinically appropriate for the symptoms and the diagnosis. Precision matters far more than popularity.

Bowel Cancer Awareness Month is an important reminder that symptoms should never be dismissed simply because they seem manageable. What matters most is whether a symptom is new, persistent, or changing over time. When it comes to bowel health, proper evaluation is always more valuable than reassurance based on assumption.

Colon cancer risk increases with age, lifestyle, and family history. The important thing to remember is that this is one of the few cancers that can often be prevented through timely screening.
Starting screening at the right age can detect early changes before they become serious. Early detection significantly improves outcomes and can save lives.

If you are over 45 or have risk factors, it may be time to discuss colon cancer screening. Take the first step to preventing colon cancer today.

Dear patients,

With everything happening around us, I just wanted to take a moment to personally reassure you that our clinic remains open and fully operational as usual.

Our timings remain unchanged, and my team and I continue to be here to care for you, just as we always have.

If you have been putting off a consultation because of the uncertainty around you, please don’t ignore symptoms that need attention. Digestive issues such as persistent acidity, bloating, abdominal pain, reflux, constipation, IBS, or changes in bowel habits should not be delayed.

Please know that your health remains our priority, and we are committed to continuing your care with the same dedication, attention, and compassion.

Thank you for your continued trust.

Inside your digestive system lives an extraordinary network of nerves known as the enteric nervous system, often called the second brain.
This system contains more than 100 million nerve cells, embedded throughout the digestive tract.
Its job is to control and coordinate many essential functions of the gut, including:
• Movement of food through the intestines
• Release of digestive enzymes
• Regulation of blood flow in the gut
• Communication with the brain through the gut–brain axis
Because of this complex nerve network, the gut can function independently while still communicating with the brain.
This explains why digestive symptoms are often linked with how the nervous system responds to stress and emotions.
When the enteric nervous system becomes sensitive or disrupted, patients may experience:
• Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
• Bloating and abdominal discomfort
• Changes in bowel habits
• Stress-related digestive symptoms
Understanding the role of the second brain helps us to better understand many digestive conditions and how the gut and nervous system work together.

I often see patients who arrive with a “Google diagnosis.”
Sometimes it causes unnecessary fear — and other times, dangerous reassurance.
This reel highlights why online searches can never replace medical evaluation.

Colon cancer usually does not show symptoms in the early stages. Most patients feel completely well while small polyps develop silently in the colon.
Over time, some of these polyps can slowly transform into cancer. This process can take years which is exactly why screening is so powerful. When polyps are detected early, they can often be removed before cancer even begins.
For many people, a simple screening test can make the difference between prevention and late diagnosis.
Early detection does not just help treat colon cancer.
It can actually prevent it.

If you are above 45, or have a family history of colon cancer, speak with your doctor about when screening is right for you. 🩺✨
