Another highlight from the championships

The week before we’d been watching a park event and saw skating. My youngest loved watching her and then there she was, 10feet away at the Wednesday night practice, so when we came back at the weekend she had to wear her dungarees, matching Bryce.
After she had been skating Bryce was being interviewed and we waited to ask for a photo.
Bryce was so kind and giving of her time. She posed for photos, gave my daughter some wonderful advice and spoke to her with such care and sincerity.
She drew a heart around her and told her she was’ ‘a star in a heart.’
She told her to always believe in herself and stay true to herself and not to let others stop her being herself.
Strong, important messages from a strong, kind, inspiring role model.
My daughter will hold this memory for always. She’s recorded it in her diary, drawn pictures and written songs about it and she’s been skating almost everyday since.
We’ve also been listening to Bryce on Spotify ever since.

I spent this morning in a workshop on student well-being with David Bott from it was excellent.
It also reminded me of the need to prioritise my own wellbeing so stopped off for ice on my way home and had my first ice bath of the year. Can’t believe it’s the end of February and I haven’t been in here this year!
Feeling refreshed and energised by it once again. Ice baths are a form of hormetic stress - the good kind- that teach us to deal with stress and use it as a tool.
When I started ice bathing and breathwork a few years ago, it taught me that I could deal with more than I thought.
When you can sit in the ice for 10 minutes in the morning the stresses of the day don’t seem so tough!
Give it a go.

Took this wee one for a walk tonight and apart from taking this photo, didn’t take my phone out. Didn’t listen to music or a podcast. Didn’t check messages or send voice notes. Instead I was present.

Think it’s the first time this month that I’ve done this. I’ve been trying to catch up on walks but really I’ve ended up further behind.

I feel refreshed by this evening.
I noted the changing scents in the air, the sounds all around from traffic on one street to the rustle of trees on another and the crickets on another. I noticed the stars on the sky and communed with my dog.

I feel relaxed and will now put my phone down and go to sleep.

I recommend going out and being present - if you don’t have a dog to walk, take yourself for a stroll and don’t let tech get between you and the world around you. 🙏

For 3 years now I’ve completed this push up challenge. raise awareness and funds for mental health programs in Australia. Odd number of push ups to complete? That’s the number of recorded suicides in Australia in 2020. Raising awareness and removing stigma of mental ill health is vital in decreasing this number, in Australia and globally.
Being open about mental health is good for everyone.

I live 6 minutes from the beach. This weekend was the first time I made it into the sea in about 12 weeks. Understandably I felt a whole lot better being there.
Being in nature is proven again and again to be good for us. So why hadn’t I gone? I was busy. I aim never to be too busy to take care of my own well-being. If I can’t care for my own how can I care for others?

I came across this quote again today and it felt apt. My practice hasn’t been perfect for sometime. For the past few months, post covid, I’ve not dedicated as much time to my breathwork as I know I should, as I know would make me feel better. I don’t feel bad, I’m still getting in short sessions each day but my focus has been off. I’ve allowed ‘life’ to get in the way. However this has taught me that even a little is better than none but that I also need to give the time to the world I know makes me feel more, me!
