You’ve probably heard of mind to muscle connection before 🧠
It’s thinking about the muscle you’re working on the machine, pretty basic right? Wrong ❌
It’s a skill. The ability to centre your attention on a target muscle, throughout the concentric & eccentric contraction phase takes a lot of focus.
If you’ve seen me in the gym with my eyes closed 👀 I’m trying to tap into this by feeling the movement & maintaining proper technique.
Give it a try next time you train. Choose a machine, not free weights, as it’s safer.
First, check the set up & make sure you have good posture, alignment & technique.
Then try to deliberately focus on mind to muscle connection, on each rep. Feel the muscle lengthen & shorten, feel where the load is at its hardest & easiest. Try to switch on the muscle as best as you can & you should experience a more effective set.
Start with a lighter/ medium weight before doing this on a heavy lift for the first time.
