Your mental health deserves attention before it reaches a breaking point. Every conversation, every session, can help you better understand your mind and find tools to cope with life’s challenges.

Sleep difficulties are often treated with medication, especially when rest feels impossible. In the short term, certain sleep medicines may help regulate the sleep cycle, reduce night-time awakenings, and provide temporary relief from insomnia. However, long-term reliance on medication may lead to tolerance, reduced effectiveness, and potential dependency. Because of this, many clinicians recommend combining medication with behavioural approaches for more sustainable sleep health.

Behavioural strategies such as consistent sleep schedules, limiting screen exposure before bedtime, relaxation techniques, and cognitive behavioural therapy for insomnia can support deeper, more restorative sleep over time. These approaches focus on addressing the root habits and patterns that affect sleep, not just the symptoms.

If this resonates with your experience, you are not alone. Book your consultation by calling (04) 440 3844 or emailing hello@vivamus.me.

A meltdown is not a child “acting out”. It is a response to neurological overwhelm, where the brain struggles to process too much sensory, emotional, or cognitive input. A tantrum, on the other hand, is usually goal-driven behaviour when a child wants something and has not yet learned how to regulate their emotions. Understanding this difference helps parents respond with support rather than punishment, because a child in meltdown is not choosing the behaviour, their nervous system is simply overloaded.

When we recognise what a child truly needs in that moment, we move from judgement to empathy. Calm presence, reassurance, and helping a child regulate their emotions can make a meaningful difference in how they learn to cope over time. Every parent deserves support in understanding these moments, especially when they happen in public.

If you would like to learn more about emotional regulation and child development, our team is here to support you. Contact us at (04) 440 3844 or email hello@vivamus.me.

Have you ever noticed how a sound, a place, or even a small reminder can suddenly bring back a strong emotional reaction? Sometimes, the body responds before the mind has time to make sense of what is happening. This is because distressing experiences can be stored within the nervous system, meaning the response may feel immediate and overwhelming.

Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing (EMDR), is a therapy approach designed to support the safe reprocessing of traumatic memories. Through guided techniques, EMDR can help the brain process experiences in a way that reduces their emotional intensity, allowing individuals to move forward with greater clarity and emotional stability.

Did you know that being autistic is not one single experience? Autism is a spectrum, which means every autistic person has their own strengths, challenges, and ways of seeing the world. Some autistic people may need significant support in daily life, while others thrive as professionals, parents, partners and friends. Understanding that people experience being autistic in different ways helps move us away from stereotypes and towards greater acceptance and support.

Another common misconception is that being autistic is caused by parenting. In reality, many autistic people are identified in childhood, while others receive a diagnosis later in life after years of wondering why they experience the world differently.

Learning more about autism can be the first step towards compassion, support, and self-understanding. Contact us directly at 04) 440 3844 or email hello@vivamus.me.

Understanding your child more deeply often begins with a thoughtful assessment. A child and adolescent assessment is designed to explore emotional, behavioural, learning, and developmental concerns in a structured and supportive way. It typically begins with a parent consultation to understand your child’s history, strengths, and current challenges.

Formal assessments are then conducted using recognised psychological tools and evidence-based methods. These help clinicians build a clearer picture of how your child thinks, learns, and feels. Following the assessment, parents receive a detailed written report outlining the findings, along with practical recommendations that can support your child at home and in school. Feedback sessions are also provided to guide parents and, when appropriate, schools on the next steps for support and care.

If you have been wondering whether an assessment could help your child, speaking with a professional can be a reassuring first step. Reach out by sending us a DM or contact us directly at 04) 440 3844 or email hello@vivamus.me.

Relationships are not meant to feel like a constant struggle. Many couples seek counselling not because their relationship is failing, but because they want to understand each other better and reconnect. Difficult conversations, unresolved conflicts, or feeling emotionally distant can slowly create space between partners. Therapy provides a safe and guided environment where both people can be heard, understood, and supported.

Couples may also benefit from counselling when trust has been broken, when parenting pressures create tension, or when they feel stuck repeating the same painful patterns. For some, it is about preparing for marriage and building a strong foundation. For others, it is about repairing what has been hurt or deciding together what the healthiest path forward looks like.

If you and your partner feel disconnected or overwhelmed, you do not have to navigate it alone. Reach out to Consultant Clinical Psychologists today by contacting (04) 440 3844 or email hello@vivamus.me.

It’s perfectly okay to ask for help. Reaching out is not a sign of weakness, but a brave first step towards understanding and supporting your mental well-being. Even small actions, like talking to a trusted friend or seeking professional guidance, can create meaningful change in your life. According to the World Health Organization, early support can significantly reduce stress and improve mental health outcomes.

Taking that first step may feel daunting, but you don’t have to do it alone. Whether it’s a conversation, a counselling session, or exploring helpful resources, every step counts. Remember, seeking help is an act of care for yourself.

Do you often feel like you’re carrying a storm inside, even when everyone sees calm on the outside? High-functioning anxiety can be subtle yet exhausting. It shows up as constant overthinking, racing thoughts, or setting impossibly high standards for yourself, often paired with strong self-criticism. You might appear composed to the world while feeling tense or restless internally. Many people struggle silently, not realising that this quiet anxiety is affecting their wellbeing.

It’s important to recognise the signs and give yourself permission to pause. Small steps like mindfulness, setting realistic expectations, or seeking guidance from a mental health professional can make a big difference.

You’re not alone, and your feelings are valid. If this resonates with you, reach us out at (04) 440 3844 or email hello@vivamus.me.

They also support your sleep, stress, and overall emotional wellbeing while helping you navigate work pressures and life transitions.

A psychiatric consultation is a collaborative process. Your psychiatrist works alongside psychologists and other healthcare providers to ensure you receive holistic care tailored to your needs. EMDR intensives are particularly helpful when:

🔹 You have a deadline looming and a phobia or trauma is getting in the way. For example, you might have a flight booked (fear of flying), a family gathering (childhood trauma) or your due date is round the corner (fear of childbirth).

🔹 You like efficiency in terms of how you use your time and budget.

🔹 You’re overwhelmed by your symptoms and can’t function (e.g. traumatic bereavement or you can’t sleep).

🔹 Your usual therapist isn’t trained in trauma-focused work and he or she refers you to us for an intensive piece of work focused on your trauma, following which we pass you back to your therapist to continue your other work.

🔹 You’re simply over it. You’ve battled on with this trauma for long enough and you’d like to put it behind you quickly.

Call us to arrange an appointment for an EMDR screening session with one of our highly trained and experienced EMDR therapists.

A Boutique Psychology and Counseling Clinic in Dubai

We are a team of British Psychologists assisting the expat and local population in Dubai. We care about change.

Vivamus is Latin for “we live” and there is an Epicurean philosopher’s quote “Dum Vivimus, Vivamus”, which means “While we live, let us live”. And that’s our ethos: we help people live life fully, whatever their challenges so you can live the life you want or the life you once had.
