Why do speech therapists like shared book reading activities with young toddlers and children?
- Bonding between parent and child
- Better vocabulary skills
- Learning about the world
- Increase ability to pay attention
- Encourages creativity

For younger children I choose sturdy board books with elements like lift-the-flap, or texturized pictures to keep their interest!

Take a break from outside distractions amd your phone. Use the time that you and your child spend at the speech therapist to look, listen and learn. Use the time that you and your child spend with the speech therapist to look and learn. Take a break from outside distractions and your phone. Focus on your child’s play and attempts to communicate. This will encourage them and aid in carry-over to home 💬

Being around food is hard for some little ones. They need to learn to accept food in an encouraging, supportive way that allows them to participate. It can he a slow process but such an rewarding one!

The SOS Approach to feeding therapy support children by breaking down the eating process into manageable steps, starting with the sensory exploration of food (such as seeing, smelling, and touching food) and progressing to tasting and eating at a pace that is comfortable for the child.

Why do I work food-based in feeding therapy?
As a SOS trained feeding therapist I like to use real food when working on eating skills. Often children are having a reaction to food, not because of inability to interact with different textured objects but because of the unique sensory experiences related to seeing, smelling, tasting, touching and interacting with different foods
