Did you know your head weighs 10-12lbs?
If you hold it in sustained positions such as poking your head forwards when using your laptop it puts excess load on the muscles and soft tissues in the neck. This resulting strain can be eased by carrying out these simple stretches every couple of hours.

Tight ITB? Perhaps it's caused from your running technique?

Random Friday by Lewis Ingram, BSc.:

Iliotibial band syndrome (ITBS) is the second most common knee injury amongst runners, contributing to more than 8% of all running injuries. Current research highlights a correlation between both an increase in peak hip adduction and knee internal rotation during the stance phase of running with greater strain at the ITB. This study evaluated the effect of step width on factors related to ITBS including hip and knee kinematics.

15 healthy runners were analysed during overground running under various step width conditions (preferred and at least +/–5%). The degree of ITB strain and strain rate were estimated from a musculoskeletal model of the lower extremity. Significantly greater ITB strain and strain rate were demonstrated in the narrower step width condition compared with that of the preferred and wide conditions.

These findings imply that manipulating one’s step width may alter knee and hip kinematics whilst running – thereby potentially influencing the amount of strain subjected to the ITB. Future studies are required to determine whether such measures hold valid for those currently experiencing ITBS > from Meardon et al,; Sports Biomech 11 (2012) 464-472.
