Abnormal uterine bleeding is bleeding between monthly periods, prolonged bleeding or an extremely heavy period. Possible causes include fibroids, polyps, hormone changes and — in rare cases — cancer.

Any uterine bleeding that is not like your regular menstruation and which persist for months can be considered abnormal uterine bleeding. Changes in the duration of bleeding, the amount of blood loss, spotting off and on, passage of clots forms the spectrum of abnormal uterine bleeding.

Reasons for Abnormal uterine bleeding

One of the commonest reasons for AUB is stress. Physical or mental stress can alter your period cycle. Other causes are excessive weight gain, unhealthy lifestyle, cyst and tumors in the ovaries and uterus, fibroid, polyps, PCOD and diseases like hypothyroidism and hyperprolactinemia. Rarely bleeding disorders and uterine cancer can be the reason.

Vulvova**nal infections affect primarily the moist walls of the va**na and, to a lesser degree the v***a. Specific symptoms differ with the cause of the condition.

These infections include:

* Bacterial vaginosis, which represents about 60% of all va**nal infections.
* Yeast infections, which account for 30 to 35 percent of va**nal infections. Most are due to Candida albicans.
* Trichomonas vaginitis (swelling, redness and tenderness of the va**na caused by trichomonas)
* Herpes simplex virus (HSV), which causes ge***al ulcers (sores). It is different from syphilis and chancroid.
* Human papillomavirus ge***al warts, which are the most common viral sexually transmitted disease.

Symptoms

* Yeast infections cause itching and a white discharge that looks like cottage cheese.
* Trichomonas vaginitis exhibits no symptoms at all for about half the women who have the organism.
* Herpes simplex virus (HSV) has a five-to seven-day growing period before symptoms appear.
* A watery discharge, especially if bloody, may indicate a malignancy.
* Bacterial vaginosis causes a fishy smelling discharge. Itching and irritation are also common.

Treatment

The type of treatment given depends on the cause of the condition. In some cases, treatment completely cures the condition. In others, it relieves symptoms and shortens the period of time the person is affected.

Other treatments for vulvo va**nal infections may include:
* Vaginal creams
* Treatment of a woman's sexual partner in certain types of conditions
* Ge***al warts may be treated by applying an acid solution. Other treatments are freezing, burning or using laser therapy on the warts

Polycystic o***y syndrome (PCOS) is a problem with hormones that happens during the reproductive years. If you have PCOS, you may not have periods very often. Or you may have periods that last many days. You may also have too much of a hormone called androgen in your body.

With PCOS, many small sacs of fluid develop along the outer edge of the o***y. These are called cysts. The small fluid-filled cysts contain immature eggs. These are called follicles. The follicles fail to regularly release eggs.

Symptoms of PCOS often start around the time of the first menstrual period.

Sometimes symptoms develop later after you have had periods for a while.

The symptoms of PCOS vary. A diagnosis of PCOS is made when you have at least two of these:
* Irregular periods. Having few menstrual periods or having periods that aren't regular are common signs of PCOS. So is having periods that last for many days or longer than is typical for a period. For example, you might have fewer than nine periods a year. And those periods may occur more than 35 days apart. You may have trouble getting pregnant.
* Too much androgen. High levels of the hormone androgen may result in excess facial and body hair. This is called hirsutism. Sometimes, severe acne and male-pattern baldness can happen, too.
* Polycystic ovaries. Your ovaries might be bigger. Many follicles containing immature eggs may develop around the edge of the o***y. The ovaries might not work the way they should.

PCOS signs and symptoms are typically more severe in people with obesity.

Pregnancy is an exciting time for mums-to-be, but it's also natural to worry about what you should do to stay healthy. The first trimester of pregnancy lasts until week 12. You may only be in week 4, but it's never too early to take note of some do's and don'ts to keep in tip-top condition.

Generally speaking, focus on taking good care of your changing body. Eat healthy foods, stay active, drink plenty of water, and get as much rest as you need. If you stay away from alcohol, smoking, drugs, and risky activities, you'll set yourself up for a healthy pregnancy and thriving baby.

HPV or human papillomavirus, is the name for a very common group of viruses. Most people will get some type of HPV during their lives. It’s very common and nothing to feel ashamed or embarrassed about.

Some types of high risk types of HPV can cause cervical cancer. In most cases your body will get rid of HPV without it causing any problems. But sometimes HPV can stay in your body for a long time.

If high risk types of HPV stay in your body, they can cause changes to the cells in your cervix. These changes may become cervical cancer if not treated.
