Your body, posture and movement patterns change dramatically during pregnancy. In fact your rib angle increases from 69 degrees to 104 degrees at their central insertion point on the breast bone!

These changes do not automatically switch back after delivery. Sometimes we need to release stiffness and tightness and strengthen weaker areas to return to optimal posture.

Rib flare or forward ribcage position is commonly seen after delivery. Here are some key points that you can work on to help correct this dysfunction.

This upper abdominal scar is as old as my patient! A scar from surgery when she was a baby 36 years ago.

She came to see me for The Mummy MOT when I spotted this scar and the dysfunction it was causing. We have done three sessions of manual scar therapy, combined with visceral mobilisation and Lymphatouch.

We still have a long way to go but I am thrilled with the improvement. Perfect example of ‘it’s never too late’ to treat your scar!

Fresh off the press!

This 2025 systematic review highlights the significant effect of lactation induced hormone deficiency on Genito-urinary health.

So many of my patients report pain with s*x and lack of pleasure and this review highlights just how many women feel the same way.

Please don’t suffer in silence. Speak to your doctor, your physio and most importantly your partner.

A lovely result for this second time c-section mama!

The combination of scar therapy and visceral mobilisation has helped flatten the scar and lift the peritoneal fascia causing the slight overhang.

If you have a c-section scar that you are concerned about, whether that be it’s appearance, pain, restriction or numbness, book in to see me

As a women’s health physio I am here to support a woman throughout all the stages of her life.

Providing education, advice, support, guidance and treatment to ensure women are heard and get to live their best life.

Women’s health is an area that historically has been neglected with many women suffering in silence.

This needs to change.

Women deserve better.

Visceral mobilisation is the treatment of your organs, their ligaments and surrounding connective tissue (fascia) to allow glide, slide and normal movement and function.

Here the area above the c-section scar was stuck down and I worked on the bladder ligament, small intestines, diaphragm and abdominal fascia to improve the appearance and function of the lower abdomen.

Whether you are breast feeding or bottle feeding it is vital that you watch your posture.
🔹Make sure you sit with your back supported, either against the back of a chair or with cushions behind you.
🔹Try not to lean forward to feed your baby. Instead place a pillow under the baby to bring the baby up to you.
🔹It’s very tempting to sit staring down at your baby for the whole feed but this can lead to neck pain. Once the baby is latched or feeding on the bottle spend some time with your head up looking forward, not down.
🔹Remember to also put a pillow under your arm that is supporting the baby’s head so that you can relax your shoulder down.

These changes can help reduce neck, upper back and lower back pain.

Made my doll! The best I could do without uploading a photo of myself onto . I’m not as young, or as thin as the doll has made me but hey that’s artistic licence right?!

I’m a women’s health physiotherapist, Mummy MOT practitioner, scar specialist and mum to two boys and a cockapoo!

Featuring in my box was obviously my Lymphatouch machine and Rosehip oil that I use for my scar therapy. I treat all scars but specialise in c-section and abdominal scars (I have 2 x c-section scars and a large abdominal scar myself). I love all things postnatal and help many women with Diastasis Recti (tummy separation) hence the Pilates mat and dumbbells.

I have recently become a scrubs convert , as comfortable as wearing PJs to work!

I’m always asked if I can do a post on how to massage your c-section scar. The problem is, each scar is different and therefore each scar requires a different treatment approach. Some need help to flatten, some need help to lift, some are puckered, some are painful….the list goes on!

It is also not only the scar that needs to be checked. I will check for a tummy separation, check your surrounding organs and their ligaments, check your abdominal fascia (connective tissue), check your breathing pattern and diaphragm and how well you are moving. Scar adhesions can affect all of these things so I can never look at the scar in isolation.

But all scars need touch. So whilst you are waiting to see me get friendly with your scar! Touch it, look at it in the mirror, see how the skin moves around it, see if any of your movements are restricted.

Once I have assessed you I will give you massage techniques, visceral techniques, movements and exercises to do at home.

I can start working on your c-section scar from 6 weeks so book in

The reason I decided to become a Restore scar practitioner is because of my own cancer scar. I had a colon resection (surgery to remove part of your colon) back in 2011 and I have a scar down the centre of my tummy. I have always accepted the scar as a badge of my survival but it has a small overhang at the top, which is visible in tight clothes, and more importantly it can limit my breathing and movement.

As cancer diagnosis and treatment is improving more people are surviving and living with their scars. But your scar should not affect your living.

Seek scar therapy if your scar is:
✔️painful
✔️tight or restricts movement
✔️numb
✔️thickened or raised
✔️puckering or pinned down
✔️causing an overhang

I can treat scars after any oncology surgery as long as the scar has no active infection, scabs are off and you are at least 2 weeks after any radiotherapy treatment.

As a scar therapist and a physiotherapist my biggest concern for scars is how they function not how they look. Some of the ‘neatest’ scars I have seen are the ones that are stuck down and causing issues further afield due to adhesions.

Scar therapy helps improve the function of your scar to reduce pain, pulling, tugging and numbness. It will also help improve the appearance of the scar by reducing thickening, redness, puckering, dipping and overhang.

If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, or you have a scar that you would just liked checked, book in to see me

Having scar therapy after a c-section is so important, not only for the appearance of the scar but for the function of the scar.

Scar therapy can help reduce a scar overhang (shelf) by releasing scar restrictions and adhesions.

Scar therapy can help improve the sensation around your scar, reducing numbness, tingling and pain.

Scar therapy can help flatten your scar and reduce the risk of developing a hypertrophic scar (thickened scar).

If you are unhappy with your scar’s appearance or function book to see me
