This workshop introduces the foundations of Ashtanga Yoga. Explore this beautiful dynamic, structured practice that links breath with movement to build strength, flexibility, and focus.

It’s for anyone curious to learn Ashtanga yoga or better their understanding of the method if already practicing.

What you’ll learn is the importance and application of Trishthana method: breath-movement synchronisation, gaze/drishti, and some of the fundamental poses of the primary series.

Expect a strong, energizing session that will deepen your understanding and confidence in this powerful practice.

Meet Sonakshi Dhamija, founder of The Shala Delhi. She has been practicing yoga in Mysore since 2015 under the tutelage of R. Sharath Jois, the lineage holder of Ashtanga Yoga.

What started as a brief break from studies turned out to be a life-long journey of self-exploration for her.

Sonakshi’s journey reflects the transformative power of yoga. Authorised by her teacher at 25, she emphasizes creating positive environments, self-acceptance, and the importance of patience and consistency in practice. Passionate about breaking stereotypes, she inspires others to embrace yoga’s physical and mental benefit.

As women, our energy ebbs and flows with the lunar cycle, the seasons and changing life stages, whether it be motherhood or menopause. 

These changes are sometimes overlooked in contemporary yoga settings, as we strive to fit into the yoga, rather than adapt it to suit our needs. 

This immersive retreat will draw on the wisdom teachings of Yoga & Ayurveda to better understand women’s physiology, anatomy of the subtle body and hormonal changes.

It will include practical take-home lifestyle practices for women of all ages and life stages. 

We’ll be also giving guidance how to practice Ashtanga yoga in a way that is supportive of a women’s journey through seasonal changes, be it post-partum or perimenopause. 

The retreat will be led by two senior Ashtanga yoga teachers Nea Ferrier and Kate ODonnell. Nea is a menstruality mentor certified by The Red School and Kate is an international Ayurveda educator and best-selling author, her latest book being Everyday Ayurveda for Women’s Health. 

The retreat will include daily lectures and focused workshops, in addition to morning Ashtanga practice, pranayama, chanting & meditation.

It is open to all female yoga practitioners looking for meaningful ways to integrate Ayurvedic living specific to women’s health. Beginners to Ashtanga yoga are welcome.

Even after many years of practice I still am surprised at how transformative Ashtanga yoga is in terms of giving energy and vitality. 

Today was one of those mornings where I contemplated skipping. I had a bad night’s sleep and when the alarm went the mind was full of lots of stories, that continued even during my morning coffee ritual. 

But I got into the car, with the thought of just a short practice. 

But here’s the thing, really the hardest part is turning up onto the mat. Once you get started, Sūrya namaskārs have an amazing capacity to generate life force - Prāṇa.

Before you know it, you are moving, breathing and thinking wow I’m so glad I am here!

Make the commitment to morning practice. Follow through despite the mental chatter. I can guarantee you won’t regret it. 

Just a few more days left of the practice challenge!
