“You are not defined by your fertility.
You are not alone.
Your life and experience matters. You do not need a child to count.”

It's not the greatest weekend for people who are childless not by choice.

Often, society tries to define us by if we have had children.

Any one you meet for the first time usually asks," How old are your kids" or "How many children do you have"

The knife goes quietly into our hearts from those questions.

Worse, many with endometriosis cannot get care because a doctor tells them to wait and see if they can get pregnant and then if they can't they can have treatment.

Treatment needed to come long before the infertility journey.

To others it is not normal to be childless.
To others they do not realize the pain, emotional and physical we have endured in our fertility journey.

They do not realize the trauma of mostly innocent comments about having a family.
It seems as if the whole world may have missed the trauma of turning on the television and seeing the commercials this weekend.

We send you lots of love as so many endure Mother's Day. We honor you and honor your choices for your health. We hold you in our thoughts. Life did not hand many of us an easy path.

You are not defined by your fertility.
You are not alone.
Your life and experience matters. You do not need a child to count.

Adenomyosis is the presence of endometrial glands and stroma within the myometrium of the uterus.

The disease begins to overwhelm and encroach on the healthy muscularis of the uterus.

The small dark spots are islands of adenomyosis lodged within the glands inside the muscles of the uterus.

Diffuse adenomyosis, as shown here, is painful and inflammatory. It has taken over the organ almost entirely creating a physically toxic environment.

Often times with adenomyosis the uterus is hard as a rock instead of being soft and supple.

Over time it is difficult to differentiate healthy uterine tissue from the diffuse disease.

April is Adenomyosis Awareness Month

may officially end today, but the fight for better care continues in a BIG way. 🧡

We're thrilled to finally announce the premiere of the long-awaited follow up to Endo What? - BELOW THE BELT.

“Below the Belt” approaches endometriosis as a social justice issue. It lifts the veil on all of the injustices patients face when dealing with the awful storm that is this disease landscape including menstrual stigma, gender and racial bias, misinformed doctors and the undeniable influence and pervasive nature of profit-driven interests in our healthcare system.

This film is an awareness tool, an educational tool - it is a unifying tool to press for change. 🧡

So many people are collaborating on this project to ensure its accuracy, its honesty, its power.

This includes but isn't limited to:

Endometriosis is a common disorder in which the tissue that normally lines a woman’s uterus – the endometrium – grows outside of the uterus.

This is too long. People suffering from endometriosis deserve better care.

The definition of endometriosis matters because the wrong definition hurts people.

It hurts people who have undergone a hysterectomy and still have pain.
It hurts trans, non-binary, gender-nonconforming, and intersex people.
It hurts post-menopausal people who still have symptoms despite no periods.
It hurts children and adolescents who aren’t “old enough” to have such grown-up problems.
It hurts every patient because bad care, ineffective care stems from a reliance on an outdated and wrong definition.

This is not a uterine problem or a disease of womanhood.
The longer we pretend it is, the more people we hurt.
Endometriosis is not endometrium.

That matters.

The 4th Emirates Endometriosis League (EMEL) Conference

In track of the EMEL previous conferences, this event is planned as well to be yet another milestone in the campaigning for better awareness and management of endometriosis in the U.A.E. and the Arab region. No words are enough to describe the utter need for more efforts to improve the quality of care for our patients with endometriosis and pelvic pain. The challenges facing practicing physicians in the domain of endometriosis, local health authorities and the social network are tremendous.

We, in the Emirates Endometriosis League, hope that this conference, with participation from world leading scientists and clinicians as Prof. C. Chapron (France), Prof. J. Donnez (Belgium) and A/Prof. A. Lam (Australia), as well as prominent regional and national figures, can improve the standards of care for patients with endometriosis in the U.A.E.

This event shall also shed light on important and very actual issues in women's health- Benign Uterine Disorders, such as fibroids and abnormal uterine bleeding disorders. Such topics are never the less as important since every other woman suffers from one or more of these benign morbidities.
